Detroit help: Red Wings / People mover / Ren Cen

Headed to Detroit this weekend with my wife. We're planning on hitting the Red Wings - Rangers game, followed by dinner in the Ren Cen, where are hotel is as well.

Our plan is to park at the hotel and use the people mover to get to the game and back. First, is this a solid and safe plan? Also, is there any other things in downtown Detroit we should consider at 5:00 PMish or later on a Saturday night?

If you are eating in the Ren Cen, I hope it is at Joe Muers.....although I have not been to Coach Insignia. If you haven't been downtown in a while, don't be too shocked at the number of people and things to do. Casinos, the skating rink at Campus Martius, lots of bars and restaurants....

The people mover will be fine for getting to/from the game. Lots of folks have to use it because of inadequate parking near the arena.
