All the food I've had at DFW is mediocre at best and borderline scary if in the yet to be renovated sections. I usually eat in the Centurion Lounge...the food is a lot better.
I'm really not sure what you mean by "scary" especially. |

(bolding mine) Disagree, I gladly look forward to grabbing a meal at the 3 Tortas Frontera places (O’HARE: T1/B11, T3/K4, T5/M12) by Rick Bayless.

 DFW has some really good restaurants in Terminal D and in the other terminals too. Cousins BBQ and the Salt Lick are both excellent.

While the original Salt Lick in Driftwood is fantastic, the franchised version I had on my last trip through terminal D was pretty mediocre.
Just like when I'm traveling & I hear folks talk about going to Pizzeria Uno's franchises, I just cringe as I know how horrible the food is at the franchise locations. |

That's a shame to hear, I have fond memories of the Driftwood Salt Lick & was hoping that the franchise would at least come close.

FWIW I think the franchises are damn decent, especially the one at AUS.
To stray way off topic, this was my review at the time (which I forgot was in A, not D): Had a brief layover and was excited to get some authentic BBQ at the newly revamped terminal A. As with most other airport food, Salt Lick runs a little pricey, but the portions are big enough that you don't feel like you're getting ripped off. Ordering is easy enough; in addition to cashiers taking your order, there are also self-serve kiosks that let you quickly order and pay when the lines are long. The food, however, is disappointing. I typically judge barbecue joints by their brisket, and Salt Lick's fell woefully short. The chopped brisket was so thoroughly pulverized that the flakes that finally get served are dry and lacking in flavor, and are so fine that they spill uncontrollably out of the bun -- at least half of the brisket fell onto the plate as I was trying to eat it. The provided spicy sauce added back some of the needed moisture, but completely smothered what little taste remained in the meat. The fries were also dry, slightly overdone, and devoid of flavor, leaving me largely unsatisfied at the end of the $13 meal. One thing to note is the number of menu items with asterisks next to them denoting they are not made with the same recipe as the "original" Salt Lick in Driftwood -- so many, in fact, that only one of the sides survived the move from the flagship location intact. |
