Things to do in OMA/LNK

Im taking my parents to OMA and LNK on vacation in May, and I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions on where to go, what to do, or what to eat?

Im familiar with most of the big names: Henry Doorly Zoo, state capitol, performing arts venues, sports venues. Do any of you central US travelers have any hidden secret/holes in the wall worth exploring?

I know this isnt really Delta related, but Im flying on Delta, if its any consolation.

In Lincoln, see the campus and the samll downtown historic area with restaurants and bars.

But why are you taking your parents to Nebraska for their vacation?

I moved to Omaha in Jan 2011 from Portland, OR.

I was supposed to stay five years.

I went from working 6 days a week to 3 and made the same income.

Every day I woke up I hated my life more than I did the day before. (I had never been unhappy with my life).

After 19 months I had enough. Moved to AZ and cannot believe I wasted 19mos of my life in that barren wasteland.

There is NOTHING to do there unless you love college sports and drinking alcohol.

There is even less to do in Lincoln.

Chain restaurants are big with Nebraskans; there are very few nice restaurants there.

Please do not have high hopes for your trip. Just enjoy the time with your folks. :)

There is an aviation museum halfway between Omaha and Lincoln. I tried to go once after work but it was too late. There is also a nice looking state park there as well.

I had four trips to Omaha last year. The highlight of all four was the day I drove over to Iowa and came back. Forty five minutes of adventure.

The SAS museum is pretty cool.

Omaha also has the Stormchasers, a baseball team. As a history prof, I really like the UNL and Creighton library. Good steak as well in Omaha.

Downtown Lincoln has shops, restaurants and galleries concentrated in two neighborhoods. I was unexpectedly surprised on a three day business trip a few months ago.

Avoid the Cornhusker Marriott in Lincoln. It's an overpriced outdated dump, despite the renovation, that's located away from everything. The newer CY, if you are a Marriott person, is in a much better location.

LNK/OMA were probably the only two destinations in the entire DL network where the OP could get award tickets at Low

Well, 355 was overly harsh.
Tour the state capitol and Memorial Stadium (if possible) in Lincoln. Close to Memorial stadium, there is Morrill Hall which has dinosaur bones and things of that nature.

Also not too far from campus is Phat Jack's BBQ which a hole in the wall, closed Sundays, with good food. And don't forget Runza for fast food you can't get in the big US cities.

Pioneers Park in Lincoln is also lovely for an outdoor walk.

There is Hyde observatory which is a great place to see stars.

Are you going to the Berkshire Hathaway thing? if so, get your hotel rooms now!

I enjoyed my time in OMA. There are quite a few good restaurants in old market. I also vote for the SAC museum.
