6 Week SUV Rental from Chicago
 

I would like to rent a mid/large size SUV (Ford Explorer preferred) from ORD for 6 weeks strating in mid September. I am from UK and have Amex Plat so insurance will be covered by my CC. Can anyone help with any decent promotions - I have Hertz Gold but their rates are showing $4000! Looks a bit high to me.

It is generally cheaper in the US to rent from off-airport locations. Try to search suburban locations of various rental agencies.

Sometimes the local managers of Enterprise have leeway to negotiate deals; at least that is my experience.

I should rent you our minivan for that kind of money.

FWIW, Enterprise ORD quotes about $1,900 a/i for 6 weeks starting Sept. 1 for a Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar, while nearby off-airport locations quote $2,200 or so. I wonder if you could call one of the off-airport locations and negotiate it down though, just like suggested above.

Just over $300 per week for a full-size SUV is not bad.

If I go for Enterprise am I likely to get a Jeep Grand Cherokee (I know there are usually no guarantees on vehicle make/model)

i'm renting a Jeep Grand Cherokee from Alamo from the 3rd to the 17th for 1200 usd with a dropoff in Los Angeles. Maybe you should have a stab at checking out rates with Alamo as well :rolleyes:
