Cincinnati Hotel Recommendations

I will be in Cincinnati for a few days and cannot decide on a hotel to stay. Would like to stay in downtown, unless there are other better options. So far I have looked at Westin, Hyatt Regency and Hilton. However, cannot decide.

Would prefer a more modern room, a hotel with a decent restaurant and a nice pool.

I stay at the Hilton - Netherlands Plaza about once a month. I do like the hotel, the rooms are older, but the location is nice. It was built in 1930 and has a lot of restoration of its opulent original design. A very historical hotel with easy walking to many restaurants (and a nice bar and restaurant inside). It will not fit your modern requirements though.

Both the Westin and Hyatt Regency are located downtown within walking distance of the stadiums and eating establishments and may fit your preferences better. That being said, I like the hotel as a whole.

Given your specifications, I would probably book the Westin, though the Hyatt is less expensive. Either one is a decent choice.

Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks. I have booked Westin so far. Was able to get $99 promo rate.

Sure thing. Stay away from Montgomery Inn for ribs www.montgomeryinn.com it is a great place for drinks but the highly touted ribs are so very overated. There are far better BBQ places in the Cincinnati area just not any right downtown.

I think there is a Cincinnati dining thread somewhere in this forum.

Yes there is and I did see it. However, I have called 2 restaurants and both of them already out of business. I cannot find the link to that thread right now

The Netherland Hilton is a landmark hotel, great location, river view rooms possible, interesting art deco decor, busy Palm court bar, and they are good to Hilton Golds, but it's glory needs refreshing. I found a used hypodermic needle in a ladies room stall there. The Westin rooms would be better. There's a suite hotel that used to be an apartment house, The Garfield, but I haven't stayed there recently enough to know what the present condition of the rooms. At night it is hard to find anything open in downtown Cincinnati close to those hotels in the way of a little market, pharmacy, coffee shop eatery or pizza joint. The front desk at the Hilton couldn't come up with anything. If you want a local restaurant that's very good but not fancy for a satisfying meal, drive a few blocks to Washington Platform. However, unless a person just needs to be Downtown, the Embassy Suites, Marriot, and others
just across the river in Covington, KY are newer and it's super easy to get to downtown Cinci from there. When you know how little vibe downtown has at night unless there's a ballgame or festival, and knowing the Cinci airport is on the Kentucky side, you understand why the Covington/Newport hotels along the river are popular.
