Joy Yee's Noodles
 

Anyone go here? There are a handful of locations. I go to the one in Chinatown, and they're all very similar: pan-Asian food, low prices, large portions, and a bewilderingly large menu. I make it a point to get something different every time, and I've never disliked what I've ordered.

Today, I got the Spicy Korean Beef & Tofu Soup. Like everything else I've gotten at Joy Yee's over the years, it was enough for three meals and cost about $10. It was a spicy red broth with beef, tofu, green onion, regular onion, mushrooms, and something that I think was zucchini (but probably wasn't). My BF got what he always gets, the Pork & Sugarcane Shrimp over rice.

Joy Yee also has good smoothies (which they call "freezes") which are essentially pureed fruit and ice. You can add tapioca if you want. BF got a peach and lychee one, which was yummy.

They have no liquor license, and as far as I know don't do BYOB. But you can certainly drink whatever you want with the leftovers at home. :)

Joy Yee's is especially known for their noodle dishes and boba tea.

If you liked the spicy Korean tofu soup, you should try Chodang Tofu Village; the Mount Prospect location is better.

I avoid this place. :)

Everything tastes the same, and there are like 1,000 menu choices. And they have the most uncomfortable chairs known to man.

My new favorite haunt in Chinatown: Ming Hin. It's not just good decor, the food is good too!

And for noodles, I really like Urban Belly on California.

Good food ? YES
Low prices ? Absolutely NOT.

I have a friend really like their food, but after one visit we didn't go back because of the price. Consider there are so many other restaurants in chinatown with same quality and same portion sizes but much lower price, Joy Yee is charging more base on the decorations of restaruant and food. Two people go in there easily get a bill with $40+. I can go elsewhere nearby with more food and half the price.

It is the same thing if you go to Hong Kong, the best chinese restaurants doesn't mean to have nice decorations, nice sitting area, nice plates.

Ms. clevername & I would get crab rangoon, split a pineapple, chicken & shrimp fried rice and get a couple frozen drinks. Bill comes out to about $25 with tip. Just my 2 cents.

I can't remember when I can split one entree with another person, and that is the only entree for the entire meal.

At the nearby restaurants, I can get 4 entrees for $25 with tip.

Are you sure we're talking about the same restaurant? Joy Yee's portion sizes are comically large. Each entree is usually enough for 2 meals if you're hungry, or three smaller meals.

Agree. I often bring large family groups here when I don't know exactly where to take them. We usually order n-1 or n-2 entrees, and that is plenty.

Generally, I do find them to be bland, but there is hoisin, soy sauce, and sriracha to adjust seasonings, if desired.

Banana freeze in particular I find to be particularly good. I want to hear how the AVOCADO freeze is. Nowhere near brave enough to order that one myself.

Service times tend to be speedy.
