Then you must try the most unique pizza of all, preceded by one of their great salads!

Looks tasty - will they bake a little bit of spicy gardiniere in with it? You know, like they do at Lou's on request?

That's the one...nearest el is the Fullerton red/brown stop. It's Lincoln Park, so there should be lots of people out on any given night. Just stick to the main streets - walk down Fullerton to Lincoln should be fine.

Thanks. At first glance, it appears the brown line is the line for good pizza. If I don't walk over, MerchMart is the stop I take for Lou's, you've confirmed that it's the one (or one of them) for Bacino's, and a quick map glance shows me that it may be the one for CPaOG posted above.

A Chicago cop once told me that Lincoln Park and Lakeview have some of the highest mugging rates of all neighborhoods in the city - thieves know that people with money live in those neighborhoods.

I've walked around those and other neighborhoods at all hours alone and never had a problem, but on the other hand I know a couple people who were robbed at gunpoint in the middle of Lincoln Park. So yes, odds are one could walk anywhere and be fine - but it's still a big city and one should exercise big city precautions.

Always the truth. The hardest part is knowing which neighborhoods to avoid completely.

Here's a completely random thought/tip for travelers to any place where they will be using an underground mass transit - bring a compass. by the time you actually get back to the street, you will probably have no idea where N/S/E/W is. A quick glance and you're good to go.

I have no idea, but this place doesn't make pizza to taste - your only choices generally are meat or not and mushrooms or not. Doesn't hurt to ask, however.

Probably about a mile walk. To take public transportation with the least amount of walking would probably mean the Clark Bus from downtown or the Red line stop at Clark/Division.

You should consider going to the Chicago Architecture Foundation website. They have a great 90 minute boat tour several times a day as well as Segway and walking tours.

Good post by gfunkdave. There are robberies and rapes in Lincoln Park and adjacent areas, because there are plenty of people who walk alone at night thinking that the neighborhood is immune from crime.

Use common sense and you'll be fine. Somebody walking home drunk from a bar at 2 a.m. is easy prey.

Oh, mclee19 - also might check out Edwardo's stuffed pizza. I never seem to remember to get it, but every time I do I find it delicious. There are several locations in the city and suburbs.

Easy prey that's most very, very likely to make it home perfectly safe. :)

SONAR Chicago is taking place from 09/09-09/11. Many of the shows are right outside of your hotel (at Millenium Park and Jay Pritzker Pavillion), so you really couldn't miss it (even if you wanted to :D ) .

Speaking of Millenium Park, I believe Transformers 3 is filming there today.

I think it's actually filming in the grassy meadow by the train tracks just south of Roosevelt - at least, that's where they've been on and off the last couple weeks.

I live over Millennium Park and see no filming activity. Of course, I don't see all... :)

Thought I heard it on the radio this a.m.

Thanks for the head's up. I'm actually starting the process of booking my trip out there in September, and still have this Hoffman Estates thing on my agenda.....
