Up-grade Question

I haven't really had time to look into this, but does anyone know how the up-grades work on thru flights? If I were to book YX 918 from MKE-SFO (with one-stop, same plane service in MCI) will I only have to pay $60 to sit in the "Signature" section? I'm assuming this is the case as the flight number doesn't change, but am not 100% certain.

For those that have up-graded, is the $60 fee worth it?

If space is available all the way through, you only have to pay one fee on thru flights. Please keep in mind that the SAME seat may not be available all the way through so there may be the rare instance where a seat change is required in the thru city (still only one fee, though). As for whether it's worth it or not... sorry, I can't give you any advice on that one.

This is 60$ for a round trip then? Is there any consideration given to NW Elite or MWExec passengers as far as a discount, etc? I would hope so for that price!
Are there ANY MW flights anymore that are all signature seating? Those were such terrific flights, long gone are the days when there was lobster, steak and champagne.........hey, how about a cookie? :)

The $60 up-grade fee is each way, so a round-trip would cost you $120 if seats are available.

All of the 717s still have the Signature seating, but that will be changing next year. For the time being, nearly all of the predominately business routes from MKE and all MCI flights (with the exception of the MKE-MCI-SFO-MCI-MKE) are all Signature as well.

I bought a signature seat on a flight from MKE - LAS. I thought it was worth it when I flew back from LAS and had to sit in a Saver Seat. :) The MKE - LAS flight was full because of canceled flights from Tuesday's Snow Storm but when I returned from LAS, the flight wasn't full but every Signature Seat was occupied. So I think the new Signature Seating on the MD80's is a hit with passengers.

Just did MKE-LAS and paid the [B]$65[B] to upgrade...it was definitely worth it given the situation. There were 2 of us traveling together, and even over a month out, the best we could do for seats together was row 25 on the 3 side with the middle open. Not wanting to take the chance on the exit row or getting stuck with someone to sit with, I paid the upgrade. For a flight of that length it is nice...quieter, less crowded feeling, no line for the bathroom...really nice. That said, saver service is great (and I would have done it if I was flying alone), and the new leather seats look a lot more comfortable than the old ones. However, the narrow seats behind row 25 look a lot narrower than they used to. If those were my only seat options, I'd definitely pay the 65, and I'm not a wide guy at all! The extra leg room up front is also nice.

I was a little disappointed, however...the signature seats are more like the old ones (they are new cushions and leather at least) than the ones on the 717s. They have a covered area where the airphone used to be...there are NO footrests or headrests, and the recline is not as nice as far as I could tell I(plus mine did not stay back, I had to push it back again every so often). Not a big deal, they just aren't quite as comfortable as the real thing. Maybe things will change once they get them off the 717s, or if they introduce an md80 replacement. I was more a little annoyed since they don't tell you that...

Just an FYI!

upgrade

I do MKE-LAX frequently, and have always paid the $60.00 upgrade. On a flight of that duration, it's money well spent. I'd probably stick out the saver seats on anything shorter.

Just my opinion, of course.

Thanks for the heads up on the M80 2x2 seating being the old seats. I suppose it was a lot more cost effective to use surplus 2x2 seats rather than buy new 717-style 2x2 seats for this interim period. When they start changing the 717's to mixed seating there will be a surplus of those newer 717 premium seats. Perhaps then they'll put them in the M80's. If nothing else the eventual M80 replacements are almost certain not to use the old seats.

Is the MKE-LAX regularly only 60? Why is the MKE-LAS 65???

I paid 60 bucks for the LAS trip the second week of December. I think they increased the price that same week.

The $5.00 increase was attributed to a government mandated tax.
