Unscheduled Landing Due To Weather?

Several days ago, I heard a report on the radio news of a Midwest flight MKE-LAS that departed MKE, but landed in MSN due to weather issues. The passengers supposedly waited several hours for MSN to open, then were bussed back to MKE to catch a different flight to LAS.

I have scoured the internet for more details, but can find nothing. Does anyone have more details on this? It just sounded kind of odd to me. Sorry about the lack of specifics re; date, time, etc.

I wondered about that. I was departing MSN on Monday on the 6pm NW flight to DTW and noticed a Midwest DC9 out on the tarmac with some airstairs pulled up to it. Unusual, as MSN only gets the YX commuter aircraft. Shortly before I left, I heard an announcement that a bus was leaving for MKE.

Must have been a "ghost" ship, since YX hasn't flown the DC9 in many years.

It was a LAS-MKE flight that was forced to land at MSN because of weather. The airport wasn't open when it landed, so they bused the people from MSN-MKE.

I'm gonna guess it wasn't weather. We landed in MSN that night around 1045pm and it was sitting there with several panels on the tail open and 4 or 5 mx guys working on it.

there were some extremely nasty storms that blew thru MKE last night. I mean bad. Probably not as nasty as the ones in ORD today, but pretty bad.

The MD-80 is technically the second generation of the DC-9. You may see it referred to as the DC-9/MD-80

Reporters and aviation. The airport is open 24/24. Tower is manned 0600-2300 and the TERMINAL is open from 0900(?) to 2300 and TSA is present from 1000(?) to 2100(?).

Wow!

From the airticle:
"An Air France flight that has been grounded in M ilwaukee for more than 24 hours remains at Mitchell International Airport. Last night passengers were forced to sit on that plane for seven hours after it landed here.

Senior Investigative reporter John Mercure discovered that it wasn't a lack of adequate facilities at Mitchell. It wasn't a lack of customs agents available to handle a full scale international flight. It was the decision of Air France.

Two-hundred fifty passengers boarded Flight 50 in Paris. They were headed to Chicago when stromy weather forced a diverted landing in Milwaukee. Pasengers had already endured a nine hour flight when they landed at Mitchell...."
