MKE-EWR goes all CRJ; Other changes coming
As I mentioned in the post about the MKE-MSP flight increase, two CRJs are coming on-line in August, with only a small amount of flight time being taken-up with the additional trip to MSP. More schedule changes have been loaded and MKE-EWR will go all CRJ in August. While it's sad to see mainline service go on this route, I actually expected it might happen given how light the loads have been during the past couple of years. The new schedule shows 4 daily flights.
Other schedule changes include:
-MKE-DEN goes to 2x daily with MD80s. The 717s were suppose to return thiss fall and perhaps that will still happen. I expect a third flight to be added as well.
-MKE-TPA goes to 1x daily with the 717. Given that September is a weak month for Florida travel, this move makes a great deal of sense. I'm sure it will be back to 2x daily by October/early November.
No word on where the extra 717 capacity will go yet. I expect to see some changes in MCI this fall as well. No way does MCI-BOS need 3 daily flights in the fall/winter. Additionally, there is still one MD88 not in scheduled service.

Once the changes have been made so "Signature" and "Saver" seats are on all aircraft this won't be a big deal, but right now I hate to see them switching between the MD80's and 717's on routes.

It looks like MSN-MCI drops to 1x daily in August. MKE-MSN drops from 6x daily to 5x daily, but two trips will be flown with the CRJ.
I really want to know where all of that extra 717 lift is going. San Jose??? Seattle???

Personally, I think Midwest should try and improve the flight times for MCI-LAX. The schedules on both ends are kind of terrible. For example, there is no early morning depature from MCI for the business traveler and the last flight of the day gets into LAX after 11:00 pm. Hopefully they can fix this with some of the new changes that are coming.

I agree that the switching of service by season and mixed service within a day is annoying, but at least in the case of DEN it's a practical one for the summer. As I understand it, being hot and high puts some heavy restrictions on the 717 in DEN...last August I purposely booked the one 717 flight of the day in both directions (despite the schedule). The return was a "full" flight that would have been oversold had everyone shown up, yet there were at least 4 rows wide open.
A few other schedule changes to note as well, effective August:
1) MCI-COS goes to 2x daily. This was loaded last week, but I forgot the route will be flown 3x daily in July.
2) MKE-DSM/FNT are all jet service now. It appears DSM gets a 4th daily flight on weekdays (I think it was a 3x daily).
3) MKE-CMH will still be flown 4x daily, but will now only have 2 flights on the CRJ. In April, the schedule was announced at 4x daily with the CRJ.

The route has switched back-and-forth between Saver and Signature. Denver was the very first route to transition to the 2x3 seating in August 2003. The route was flown 2x daily with the MD80s until late 2004, when Midwest decided to convert it back to Signature Service. Later, a third flight was added and the route was flown exclusively with the 717s. In the summe of 2006, Midwest operated the route with a mix of Signature (3 daily 717s) and Saver (1 daily MD80). When the summer 2007 schedule took effect this past May, the route once again became the domain of Saver Service.

It would be nice if they would add one Signature Service flight to MCO...even say 3-4x weekly if not daily. I don't understand why MCO-MKE is Saver but MCO-MCI is Signature.
I really wanted to fly YX for the flight, simply to see if it's as good as y'all claim, but I could go J on FL MCO-ATL-DEN or Saver on YX MCO-MKE-DEN...it wasn't much of a choice. The YX website did offer me a more expensive routing of MCO-MCI-MKE-DEN with MCO-MCI and MCI-MKE on Signature. It's too bad they don't offer MCI-DEN.

Correction: one of the eight daily MKE-MCI flight is operated as Saver Service as the plane continues on to SFO.

Midwest has made an effort to keep MCI all Signature Service as they attempt to build the brand there. The only route that is flown with Saver aircraft is SFO, and that's only because Midwest converted all of the MD80s to 2x3 seating (except for a charter aircraft and another which is used as a spare).

And yet more changes...
While looking for some flights, I noticed that Midwest has pulled the 2nd daily MCI-SFO 717 flight as well as the evening MCI-BOS departure. Both of these changes appear to be effective right after Labor Day. The SFO flight was scheduled to run through mid-November.
As things stand now, Midwest has removed/reduced mainline flying on the following routes:
MKE-DEN: One of the three MD80 flights is gone come mid August.
MKE-EWR: All three 717 flights will be replaced by the CRJ in August.
MKE-LAX: The 2nd flight/red-eye return is gone come 9/30 unless a change is announced.
MKE-SFO: Gone after 10/31 unless Midwest decides to keep it year-round. I'd say the chances of this happening are greater now that the 2nd MCI flight is gone, but still remain doubtful it will happen.
MCI-SFO/BOS. As mentioned above, one frequency on each route will be pulled after Labor Day.
Additionally, there is still one MD80 used as a spare this summer that should be put into scheduled service this fall.
There's alot of mainline lift becoming available within the next few months and Midwest has been very quiet lately about schedule changes.
