I was surfing the KC Star website and noticed that there was an old arcticle from March 2003 that said YX cancelled 6 flights or desitnations, what were
What were the 6 flights or destinations and also, what are some other Destinations that YX had but cancelled them
The only ones i can think of are:
News Orleans
Houston Hobby
Orange County

When things were starting to become very bleak for Midwest financially, they began cutting routes and frequencies, especially in Kansas City. The routes were:

-Austin
-Boston
-New Orleans
-Ft. Myers (which was operating seasonally)

In late 2002, Midwest had also eliminated service from Kansas City to Atlanta and Washington Dulles. Newark was supposed to be started in November 2002, but advance bookings were so weak that the flights were pulled before service even commenced.

Kansas City took a beating after 9/11 and it took a very long time for traffic at the airport to re-bound. Things are thriving there now and Midwest has been well received in the market place, thus all of the expansion.

Boston has since returned and has performed quite well. New Orleans also came back put was cancelled after Hurricane Katrina.

Other routes that Midwest operated in the past from Kansas City included Omaha, Des Moines, Raleigh-Durham and Orange County (dumped in favor of LAX).

With the regional jets coming on-line, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Austin, Raleigh, and even New Orleans return. Also, Midwest is yanking the 717 of MCI-PIT starting May 1st.

Wow, i didn't realize that MCI had all those Routes, I guess i never paid attention to any of it because I was in Southern Minnesota in College and I didn't fly that much back then

Man, all that service from MCI would have been great, I wish it was still there, wonder how YX would be doing if 9/11 didn't hit

Midwest was actually going through some rough times before 9/11 happened, and things only proceeded to get worse from that point on.

Looking back, it was clear that the economy was going down hill in 2000. For an airline like Midwest, it was an especially difficult time because business traffic and thus yields weakened significantly.

At the same time, Midwest stumbled badly with its short-lived Indianapolis focus city. They lost a ton of money on this venture and it helped contribute to one of the airline's first quarterly losses.

Despite that, Kansas City was still posting some big numbers for Midwest and it made perfect sense to expand further. Unfortunately, with the economic down-turn well under way, yield dried-up quickly and most of the new additions (New Orleans, Atlanta, etc.) performed poorly. Then 9/11 happened and traffic at Kansas City fell-off a cliff. With Midwest's own financial fortunes getting desperate with each passing day, they made the correct decision to suspend or discontinue alot of the Kansas City flying in late 2002/early 2003.

If all of the flights were still intact, Midwest would have a much bigger operation in Kansas City today (probably close to 50 flights).

Also, Midwest (via Skyway) had a little focus city in Grand Rapids as well. Flights varied, but at one time or another service was offered to Newark, LaGuardia, Washington National, Columbus, and Milwaukee.
