Kuwait hotels

Why are hotels in Kuwait so expensive and are there any reasonably priced ones?

Random date put in (this weekend)
Abu Dhabi: $53
Muscat: $54
Dubai: $71
Doha: $96
Bahrain: $137
Kuwait: $257

I know Dubai has some cheap local digs, but I can't seem to find anything on Kuwait. Would think that the 110 degree heat and that whole war thing would drive demand down a little. Anyone have any insight?

There are not many items of interest for tourists in Kuwait, I was there two weeks ago and saw pretty much everything in my two days.

I stayed at the Kuwait Palms Beach Resort & Spa, very nice.

To be more precise, Kuwait (AFAIK) currently holds the rare distinction of being the only country in the world that doesn't issue tourist visas at all.

Does it still not? I actually was looking about a month ago at the kuwait info website and it no longer said that tourist visas were not issued. I wondered if that was the case but never called about it.

I've not been to Kuwait in a while but visas were normally issued at port of entry (i.e., the Kuwait airport) for some nominal amount. This applied to American passport holders there for social/leisure or for business purposes.

I thought the Kuwait hotels were so expensive because they are so full. They have all the US Military honchos, intelligence, contractors, sub contractors, media, etc., staying there extensively.

The situation in Amman is similar.

I stay at the Four Points, which is in the Sheraton Complex, is brand new and clean. Costs me KWD 50 a night.

Visa on arrival is available for lots of nationalities judging by the queues at the desk these days..
