doha transit options
A couple of options - arriving on a thursday 1pm from RUH in Qatar A class departing 8am next day to SEA in I class. US passport/resident. Never been to doha so there's appeal in at least spending the afternoon. My inclination is venture out and return to the lounge where food / drink is free.
1. don't leave the airport and use the A class to access the AS lounge, nap, eat, work, etc. 1A. stash /check bag and hit Doha for the afternoon, return to airport and nap/eat/work (both of those assume I will be able to access with the A class rights even though midnight comes in between inbound and outbound) 2. book using Marriott certificate at the ritz for free, hang on the beach, go back to the airport at 3am (prepping for time change) 3. use the qatar layover system and pay 30-130 usd for a hotel that is easily cancelled if random visa issue. maybe includes some kind of transit? 4. wishful thinking - the comped layover for J/A class returns in the next week |

If you can't get cross the frontier, you'll be down to either lounge-hopping and the goodwill of QR, or seeking accommodation in the airside hotel (a pricey and uncertain option). There are rentable sleep-pods airside. You might be disappointed at QR's willingness to host your visit in Safwa the calendar day after your arrival. The rules appear muddy, quirky and mutable. |
Outside of the World Cup period decent hotels are easy to find and none to expensive. Doha is a nice enough place for a short visit and you'll have enough time. Why would you return to the airport at 3am for a 8AM flight? I'd do 2 hours before.

My flight arrives @ 04:40 and departs next day @ 07:45. Does DOH airport allow one to enter the evening prior to stay @ the airport hotel?

If I were you; I was to get the most of the benefit of this layover (Who knows if I will be there again?!) I was to begin my day with a Doha day trip before I get back to the hotel for some kind of napping and having lunch before I continue with sand dune safari (that should include dinner). Later; I get back to the hotel, shower, refresh, sleep for 2-3 hours, and finally head back to the airport. That is the perfect life.
Just make sure to book an airport-based hotel (like Oryx Hotel). |

For the early departure, an uber or taxi from the hotel will get you to the airport in twenty minutes or less. https://www.discoverqatar.qa/standar...otels/overview |
I changed my reservation from the oryx hotel @ Hamad airport (DOH) to the Hyatt Oryx which is at the old aiport, 12 km away. the next closest one...
I did this as i was not certain that i could enter the secured / duty free area in the evening, sleep overnight, and fly @ 0745 next morning. I can no show @ the hyatt if i can in fact check in and get a hotel or sleep pod at airport since the hyatt RSVP is only 40 USD for the night. |
for my dates, the hyatt oryx is 140 QAR (31 pounds) and the the airport oryx @ Hamad airport is 1040 QAR. (230 GBP)
