Prices of nuts in UAE compared to US

We love eating nuts (almonds, pistachio, walnut, macadamia etc). Is it cheaper to buy them in Dubai or should we carry some with us from the US?

That is an unusual question to say the least, but coincidently enough I took this photo from a grocery store while in the Mall of The Emirates.

Only shows the prices for a few, but maybe you can convert and compare across nut types...

I'd guess nuts from the souks in the old city would be cheaper?

While not UAE, I purchased .5KG of pistachios (1.1 lbs) for 6 USD while in Iran.

Almonds, cashews and pistachios should be cheaper in the UAE.

Walnuts and macadamias will probably be cheaper in the USA.

Remember that UAE customs regulations only allow you to transport 12kg of nuts per person for personal consumption, so you will probably have to buy some locally anyway. Any nuts above that level will be levied a 5% import duty.

When I lived in Dubai (2005 - 2007), almonds where cheaper at Choithrams (local UAE grocery store) than the same almonds in the USA - they were grown in the USA. Choithrams is usually a bit cheaper then Spinneys.

Not sure of the price, but I took this pic last week. It's a couple of blocks from the metro stop for the Gold Market in Diera.I can almost guarantee it will be cheaper than the US.

I was in Dubai a month and a half ago and I too was looking for a good price on nuts as I was told they were cheaper there. Couldn't find one. I can get a kilo of cashews for 12 Euros here in Cyprus. They were more expensive in Dubai. So were walnuts. I didn't price pistachios. I did go to the spice souk, but most of the shops there only sold wholesale or you had to buy a 10 kilo bag to get a good deal. I don't know if I was looking in the right places, but I didn't find any good deals on nuts there.

12 Euros is about 50 Dirhams. I've bought 1/2 kg bags of Cashews for 28 Dirhams last month at Carrefour. I'm sure there are cheaper places too. Not a huge difference in price.

Might filberts be cheaper in Turkey (not that it's in the Middle East, but...)?
