One day in Abu Dhabi

In a couple of weeks I've got about 15 hours in Abu Dhabi (from 7.30am-10.30pm) and naturally I'm going to get out and about to check out the place since I've only ever spent time in Dubai and not Abu Dhabi in the past.

Basically I was wondering if anyone had a few quick pointers about where I could go just to wander about, eat some awesome food, check out a few things and then head back to the airport. I know there's meant to be a beautiful mosque there and I was also considering a quick foray to Ferrari World but I really don't know how far spaced the city is.

I'm flying Etihad and I can book a chauffeur transfer to/from the airport. Is there anyone who might be able to suggest somewhere I can:

1) Get dropped off, maybe a hotel or something nearby where I can start my wandering

2) Get picked up to come back to the airport. Somewhere easy to get back to after a day of wandering around Abu Dhabi.

3) Does anyone know if there's left luggage services at AUH? I've got two tickets on two different PNRs from CDG-AUH-MEL but I'm not sure if they'll hold onto my bag with a 15 hour stop.

Appreciate any pointers anyone can shoot my way!

1) You could get dropped off at the Shangri-La, which is opposite the Grand Mosque. You could go for a wander through the Souk al Bahar which is attached to the hotel, then grab a cab over to the mosque. Look online for timings - though you can turn up any time (except on a Friday) they run free informational tours at certain times which are well worth trying to catch. The Shang is 15-20 minutes from the airport.
2) Pretty much any hotel will do it. Even if you end up on the Corniche you'll only be 35 minutes from the airport.

If you want to wander, I would suggest a walk along the Corniche. The Western end has the Emirates Palace and the Jumeirah Etihad Towers, the Eastern end has the harbour, the fish market and the carpet souk. You can even hire a bike if you like and cycle the length (it's quite long, maybe 15km).

Appreciate it mate - Shangri-La it is! I was just trying to work out where I could get picked up from as it has to be booked 24 hours in advance that all. I might just book transfers to/from the Shangri-La and get myself back there at the end of the day.

Gives me a good place to start!
