Eastern Province of KSA

what are some decent places to eat in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia?

schley Jun 2, 2011 6:22 am

That depends on your definition of "decent".

What are you looking for?

Agree with the above. Also, it depends where you work.

The American chain restaurants do the job as adequately as anywhere. There's a nice place near the Meridien in Khobar. The hotels themselves aren't bad. Still, in all my time there, nothing outside really stood out.

Shame you have to go to Riyadh for Burger Boutique...

Well the KSA definition and what those in the US call decent differs just a hair. :D

I would say either a chain restaurant or a nice niche restaurant. Such as La Gondola in Khobar by the Corniche.

Ever been ?

how do the prices compare to the US?

The chain restaurants, for example Chili's, is slightly cheaper IMO. However the places like la gondola are cheap compared to what you get.

I think most of them will let you stay inside if you get there before they close to pray.

Yes, many of the indoor, sit-down places catering to expats will let you in before prayer and you can order your meal and continue as normal. Some will even let you in during prayer if you just knock and look confused ;-)

Lots of good places, for locals and expats. Mondo's for Italian-ish, Sanbok for good (expensive) seafood, Abu Nawas is a bit of a touristy Syrian-esque outfit but cheap and good. Mandi King for good Arabic style kebsa (cheap). For good Middle Eastern fast food, try Shellal (several locations) or any number of the chawarma joints in the Doha area of town (don't know the name of my favorite, just the location).

As with many places outside the US and Europe, great food is on the whole very affordable.

I only go to the chain restaurants when dragged in a group. Most taste pretty much the same and prices are comparable.

wow thanks for this list. Good information. Do you know if any offer a ABA-EP discount?
