Things to see and do in Riyadh (RUH)

Who'd have thought there was so much to see and do ... http://www.simbacom.com/riyadh-ksa/home/index.html

Of course, finding out where places are, when they're open and which days are families only is a challenge :), but it's a start !

Are there any other FTers here or visit regularly ?

I'm there every week...

Heading there for the first time in just under two weeks. Invited by King Saud University to conduct a week's worth of workshops. Four of the five days have workshops that run 1600-2100 only, but I'm not sure how much flexibility I'll have for getting around to see anything. Would be nice to see something other than the university and the Holiday Inn while I'm there.

Taxis are everywhere and relatively cheap. They should be able to get you there and back easily.

If it's a mall, family days are the weekend (Wed-Fri). Enjoy your stay.

Agreed, but never underestimate the cluelessness of the average Riyadh taxi driver ! And yes, i know your white car with the "taxi" sign on the roof is a taxi. You don't have to beep me every 5 seconds :)

Hmmm ... doesn't seem to be so strictly enforced these days, particularly for westerners. I do tend avoid the malls at weekends though, mainly out of respect for the more traditional locals.

It doesn't really help that family days coincide with the same days when you have spare time and might wish to spend it in a mall.

As you may tell from my card collection, I've been to the Kingdom rather regularly.

Currently not there but will no doubt find myself there again soon.

I've not had trouble as a westerner walking around the malls even during family time, but perhaps I've been lucky... (of course, that doesn't apply to the Kingdom Mall Ladies Floor ;) )
