Kuwait, 10 hours

I have a 10 hour layover in Kuwait as a result of a mileage run coming up in late January. Does anyone know what I can do in the country for that short amount of time? Can I hire a driver to take me around and show me the city really fast? And how do I go about hiring someone reliable who speaks English? Do I need a Visa to enter??
Thanks,
David

Most Westerners can get a visa on arrival - you'll need to change some money first I think it was 5 KWD. A driver can be hired to take you out to the Martyr's House where Iraqis killed several young Kuwaiti men in the early hours of the invasion. The place has been turned into a museum and is excellent and rather moving.

The Kuwait towers are worth a visit too.

There is also the largest wooden ship in the world... all within an easy drive.

Dear Desert Nomad,
Thanks ever so much for your suggestions. Can you tell me if most of the drivers can speak English? Not sure how much money it may cost to be driven around--any idea? Can I hire him for the day??
Thanks again,
djc

They will speak excellent English (at least the guy I hired did). I found him through the hotel (I think I stayed at the Oasis... a decent 3 star place). I would guess the airport info desk could help you, or just work out a deal with a taxi driver for say 4-6 hours (the info desk should give you some idea of the cost). I can't remember what I paid... $80-100 maybe??

He took us up on the highway towards the Iraq border (stopped for pictures in front of the sign for Baghdad)... the same route where the Iraqi army was decimated. The Martyr's House was well worth it and we also stopped at the National Museum which was looted quite a lot.

Kuwait is certainly worth a day. Have a look here:

I recognize I'm bumping a 2 year old thread: any suggestions for a 4.5 hour layover in KWI?

Pick up a visa, exit the airport, take a taxi (likely to be a Crown Vic, cost is flat fee of 5 dinar ($15 USD), get a room at the Ibis Hotel (Sharq) for ~$75 USD, hit the small hotel gym, take a shower, walk around the city, get a bite to eat, take a taxi back to the airport (again a flat fee of 5 dinar), check out the lounge (no alcohol), board, fly out.
