Short Trip to Jerusalem
 

Hi, all
I'm making a short business trip to Jerusalem. Arriving Sat afternoon, leaving the following Wed afternoon.

I'm looking for restaurant suggestions and also a recommendation for a tour group.

Cuisine not really important. I'd like to try someplace favored by the local folks.

I'll probably only have half a day for a tour, so someone who offers that would be great.

Most of the better restaurants are closed Saturday afternoon until sundown for the Sabbath.
You say cuisine is not important, but are you more of a meat eater or dairy? And what's the price range?

Cafe Rimon is a place you can never go wrong with. There are 2 locations, one just off Ben Yehuda Street, in the center of the city. They have both a meat and a dairy restaurant there (Perhaps someone can correct me: last time I was there, the meat place was still closed for renovations, but has it opened since?)
The other location is only dairy, and is located in Mamilla Mall.

On Emek Refaim, there are a bunch of places, many of which are good. Two of my favorites are Joy (meat) and Luciano (dairy). If you can give me more information of where in Jerusalem you'll be, price you're looking for... I can give you better results (hopefully). Enjoy!

As for tours, it takes years to tour Jerusalem! There are tours that are comprehensive, informative, and enjoyable, by the Old City that last only a couple of hours. Let me know if that interests you, and I can PM you some more detailed info.

MAhane Yehuda in Mahane Yehuda is supposed to be new and quite good.

Rooftop & Scala
 

My recommendations are the "Rooftop" located at the Mamilla Hotel or "Scala" located at the David Citadel Hotel. Both serve a very high quality of food and the prices are not high in the sky

For a place with local flavor go to the meat restaurants on agripas street - Sami's is excellent with great salads and pita, Hashipudia is a hole in the wall with great laffa bread and stuffed vegetables and cigars (meat filled egg rolls) around the corner

Caffit on Emek Refaim for good salads, Doron felafel for a local flavor and Apple and a Pear in Safra square for an opera singing Italian owner with fresh pasta.

A great dessert is the chocolate rugelach sold at the Marzipan bakery in the Machane Yehuda market - there is always a line

Notes about Marzipan:

They are now located in the Old City as well.

They ooze with chocolate and are much rawer than other rugelach. It's a taste preference. But if you have a sweet tooth but don't like under-baked, over-chocolatized food, you're better off with a bakery like Maaafeh Neeman (which is all over Jerusalem).

I was. I wanted to let the OP know (though I believe the OP has returned from Israel already) what Marzipan before he/she purchased it and decided it wasn't for him/her.
