How are the cherry trees?
 

Did the rain wash all the blossoms off? We're headed down this afternoon. Hope we didn't miss them.

I'm tempted to say they're all gone, just to keep from adding to the number of tourists.

But, if you promise to "stand right, move left" on metro escalators, I'll let you know that they're fine. You can always check the NPS blossom cam:

I expect tomorrow to be especially crowded between the parade and the annual street festival (and predictions of good weather).

By the way, there are some other good sites for cherry blossoms within the region. The Capital Crescent Trail in Bethesda is a good choice.

big problem is always the wind. blowing 30 today and tonight. however, it is early in the blossom period.

Hopefully they make it till next week! I'm coming in for the Frozen Four and have never seen the cherry blossoms bloom.

The way that wind is whipping around tonight I'd be surprised if they make it to Monday, I'm afraid. "Peak bloom" is already happening for the past couple of days, the last day for peak is supposed to be tomorrow, but we're getting wind gusts in the 40mph range here tonight and tomorrow for most of the day. That's not a good thing for cherry blossoms!:(

Bummer is right. I suppose I should hold off on my cherry blossom MR in two weeks.

Good news, I just got back a while ago from an early morning walk around the Tidal Basin. My own dire predictions were wrong, the blossoms survived the wind and still looked pretty good. Having said that, I wouldn't expect to see them around for more than another 3-4 days at most, the poster who said they're coming in two weeks for a MR is going to be way out of luck, sorry..

Ran the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler today and they were beautiful. The wind didn't negatively affect them. They were as good this morning as any year I've seen them. ^

Get here quick if you want to see them. The weather is getting crappy again on Tuesday.

They're holding up brilliantly here on the Georgetown University campus. ^

Unfortunately I'm not flying in until Wednesday night (BWI) and won't be down in D.C. until Thursday afternoon. I'm really hoping that they at least kind of hold on until Friday morning...I'd love to get a run in past the monuments, under some cherry blossoms.

I have a friend who ran the 10 miler this morning, too, magiciansampras, and her pictures from the race were gorgeous! Maybe someday I can make it out there for the race...I ran a freezing cold half-marathon here in Denver this morning instead. Could have been worse, they were calling for a blizzard yesterday. :)

I was there over the weekend. Way too many tourists. We were by the tidal basin on Saturday and it was packed. Also a lot of the trees had dropped most of the blooms so while they still looked white, they weren't as Fluffy as we've seen in previous years. The weather was very nice.

Stiff wind on Saturday, eh?

Typically peak bloom in the suburbs is a bit later than in the District, so it might be worth seeing how the Capital Crescent Trail is looking. The Arboretum is also a good less crowded viewing spot but I think it is past peak there. But it's still worth a visit to see the Capitol columns and I think the azaleas should be coming in now.

The tourists were very bad this weekend, by the way. I had theatre tickets so had to deal with the unwashed masses. Is it that bloody hard for people to let folks off the metro before trying to board? I have bruises from fighting my way off the orange line at Metro Center.
