adding passport pages in Washington, DC

My husband got himself in a bind - he needs extra passport pages ASAP. We live in DC, so I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a place we can just go and have pages added (this is for a US passport) today?

I read that people are able to do this at US embassies in other parts of the world, but anyone know what's the best way to do this in Washington?

Thanks!!

Unfortunately there are no US emabassies or consulates in the US so you have to make do with the less efficient US Passport offices.

To wit:
* WASHINGTON Passport Agency
1111 19th Street, N.W.
First Floor, Sidewalk Level
Washington, D.C. 20036

Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., local time, M-F, excluding Federal holidays
Automated Appointment Number: 1 (877) 487-2778

check online at travel.state.gov to see if they will let you get the pages added same day. I assume that you are about to apply for a visa that requires some number of clean pages? (China, Brazil, wherever) If you are doing something like visiting the UK or europe they will just keep stamping full pages.

Another option is to use a passport service. This is a good option if someone else is footing the bill (ie your company). These people often take up all the appointment slots at the passport agencies.

If you have the new passport with RFID, it can't be done on the same day. It will have to be sent to New Hampshire or something like that. I have had pages added the same day on the conventional type of passport twice. You will, most likley, have to pay the expedite fee.

You want to go where? Mar 3, 2008 10:40 am

Regarding cordata's message, keep in mind that you must have a pre-scheduled appointment to use the Washington Passport Agency, which you can get using the automated appointment line. You cannot simply walk up and expect to get served

This is surprising. Can anyone confirm this? Why wouldn't new pages in the new passport just be taped in like in the old passports???

Because, I am told, they haven't got enough stock to send them around to all locations. They also haven't got the new application form that, supposedly, "you must use".

Is it the case that the easiest/quickest way to get extra pages is to visit a U.S. embassy or consulate when outside the country? How long does this take if done by mail? Can you pay the expedite fee to speed the process when doing it by mail?

I've been in and out of embassies within as little as 15 minutes to get new pages. No appointment required and no fee. Getting an entire new passport I've done in less than an hour at an embassy. Again no appointment, can't remember if there was a supplemental fee.

I think you can pay the $60 expedite fee in the US for the pages.

If your company foots the bill and you're traveling in less than 2 weeks I would go with a service to stand in line for you.

Note to moderator: I don't think this thread has much to do with travel to Washington DC - more about how to get visa pages quickly.

New pages are sewn in and also taped in.

Where have you had it done on the same day? Thanks.
