WX at IAD tonight

Anyone sure of details? Checking ua.com I'm piecing things together, but...

For example, looks like 924 to LHR (sched 10:02pm) is now estimated at 3:00am departure. Worries me because this plane should become 924 tomorrow, which I'm on....

Freezing rain. 3:00 am is when it is due to warm up.

Could it be weather? The forcast is freezing drizzle at 26 F. Say may cause lot of trouble deicing the planes and keep the runways open.

Sorry to rain (further sorry for the pun..) on the OP's parade, but it'll be below 32 till after morning rush hr at the latest forecast... good luck!

I was on 914 out of IAD and the initial delay was listed as mechanical. Once delayed boarding was completed we had to be deiced. Sheet of ice covered the windows

I was talking to family back home, and the weather there has been pretty awful all day. Rain and ice and the like. Virginia is not a nice place to be in February.

932 to FRA and 982 to KWI both departed around midnight so I don't think the delay on 924 is tied to weather. UA flight status shows an MX delay on 924.

My wife was on 919 to San Diego. She told me they kept delaying because of the freezing rain. Plane left 2 hours late (8:00 pm).

(much better than her original schedule - ORD weather scotched the connection, and a good thing. UA717 wound up leaving 4 hours late and diverted to LAX! Glad I wasn't flying yesterday!)

I was on 918 to LHR.

Deice, deice again, mechanical, and deice again.

Well looks like 924 finally left the gate at IAD at 2:57am - ouch! Almost a 5 hour delay. "Aircraft Servicing"

Could be worse, could be the GRU flight which is going 22 hours late tonight!

Somehow, today's 925 back to IAD is on time - in theory. We'll see if 924 makes it out on time - they're now calling for snow at IAD tonight.

they're calling for snow showers...so i think you'll be fine.

ah yes, my wife and i once sat thru 2 bottles of champaign and a massage on virgin waiting for deice at lhr.

deice is a big deal in the dc area, since the air florida flight from dca to the 14th st bridge.

sonoftheheartland Feb 14, 2008 12:35 pm

Could have been a lot worse that night if you were driving near the new spaghetti twists at the Mixing Bowl in Springfield -- some stuck for 8 hours on overpasses and merge lanes and various. Torture and madness, anyone?
