Any Cheap Parking at IAD?
I need to park for 10-11 days. Economy lot 9.00 daily
Hotel park and flys are about $210-$259 Amy I missing anything? |
Which night you want to sleep-n-fly makes a big difference. Friends have used the Hampton Inn (http://www.hamptondulles.com/specials.php). They have lots of Friday or Saturday night stays for $79-$99 which include 7-nights free parking. An additional week only costs $10. They don't seem to have any Tuesday or Wednesday nights available through the summer, and other nights typically price out at $159.
Hope this helps. PS Other than sleep-n-fly hotel packages, there is no off-airport parking at Dulles that I know of. |
Annandaler is right. Other than Park and Fly at various hotels there are no private airport parking groups near IAD.
I believe you can park for free in the Herndon/Monroe Park and Ride garage on the Toll Road and catch the METROBUS (forget which #) to Dulles, but I'm not sure I'd want to leave my car there for that long. From Chevy Chase you could always do SuperShuttle, or take the METRO to Rosslyn for the MetroBus ($3) or to West Falls Church for the Airport Shuttle (I think $12 but don't quote me). There are a few threads on Dulles parking floating around as well. Hope this helps! |
Thank you!

My house is probably a $25 cab ride each way, so I would probably bum a ride from a friend or take a cab (not a cheap option for you in Chevy Chase, though). |
I just parked at Herndon-Monroe for a 2-day trip, and it was fine. I am thinking of doing it again for a week-long trip soon. That's probably the best bet for cheap/ free parking near IAD.

$9/day is not bad. It used to be $6/day but compared to other major airports, I'm fine with this. I have to pay $15/day at MIA......which is one reason I don't fly out of there as much anymore. My next trip out is an 11-day out of MIA and I'm parking at my condo downtown and taking a $30 cab to the airport.

As a follow-up to my previous post: I parked my car in the Herndon-Monroe lot for a week and picked it up today without a problem. However, I noticed a sign posted in the garage which said that they were doing maintenance work on the asphalt parking spaces (are those the ones on the roof?), and that all cars had to be removed from that area before July 21st (i.e., last Saturday). I'm pretty sure that sign wasn't there when I left, and I nearly had a heart attack until I realized that I wasn't parked on asphalt. So I guess there is a risk that your car could be towed due to maintenance work or something like that, and they don't really give too much advance notice. Still, I'm happy that I saved close to $70 on parking.

$9/day or any of those higher prices are only okay, when there is timely and reliable transportation back to your vehicle. At IAD, this is is often sorely lacking.
Last year when this scenario happened to me for the umpteenth time I complained to a supervisor and he comandeered the next bus that came by and sent us off to the right lot. |

According to this website, overnight parking is now prohibited at Herndon Monroe! http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/news/2007/08_005.htm |

We actually called the information line right after we parked to ask if there was any sort of signaling mechanism we needed to employ, and the guy just sent out a bus to pick us up. I don't know if that's typical, but might be worth a shot if the wait's getting to you.

The shuttle busses to and from the parking lots seems to be one place where they really try to do a good job at IAD.
