Best Romantic Dinner in Philadelphia?
I've lived in Philadelphia my whole life, but have never gone out to a very romantic dinner. I'd like to do this soon and wanted to hear what others have done. Myself and SO are in our mid-20s and enjoy all types of food (anything buy fastfood :D ) and tend to tpyically go to trendy/hip spots.
I know a popular choice is Vetri, but I'd love to hear what people have done. thanks so much |
Do you want to stay in Philly? Or are you willing to come out to the suburbs (yeah, I know you are implying the city). If you're willing to take a drive, how about the General Warren Inn (Malvern), Duling Kurz (Exton) or the Dilworthtown Inn (Chadds Ford).
In Philly itself, it seems like Le Bec Fin would be an obvious choice. |
I'll second the Le Bec Fin recommendation, my wife and I went there for her birthday in January. We had been a few years ago when we were in Philly for a friend's son's wedding. Both time we were impressed with the food, ambience and service.
Not sure if I'd consider it hip or trendy, however, hip and trendy to for me generally means a bit more boisterous than romantic. Cheers, Jeff |
I think Vetri is fabulous, and with advanced notice they will make the dinner extra special. This is always where I celebrated special occasions. They have redone what was formerly Founders at the Park Hyatt - Bellevue. However, it's a very nice room with great views of the city. I've also never had a bad meal at Pasion, although the service can be slow at times. I like the atmosphere and cuisine there a great deal. In the burbs, the Black Bass Hotel in New Hope is very nice (fireplaces, etc.).

I like the Vetri recommendation - I walk by there often and have often wanted to eat there. I've recently read that it's the hardest restaurant in the city to get into - does anyone know if it's a 30 day rez window?
I should probably give them a ring and figure that out. |
i recommend chloe's...small, romantic restaurant, but they don't take reservations, so get there early!
|
I seem to recall calling about 2 months in advance for Vetri. You never know, though; I'd say the sooner the better. Let them know of the special occasion as well.

buddakan is also amazing (much better than the new one they opened up in nyc), albeit not really 'romantic'...

Le Bec Fin has it all..food, atmosphere, service. ^ ^ ^

I recently lived in Philly for almost 4 years and each yeat The Astral Plane ( www.theastralplane.com ) would win "Most Romantic" restaurant from local papers. Admittedly, I've never been, but I think I'll try it out for my birthday at the end of the month.
DJ. |
Oh, there's an italian place called Porcini over on 21st and Sansom that's small (can be loud at times tho) but the food is pretty good and it's about 1/10 the price (literally!) of Le Bec Fin.
|
I've eaten at The Astral Plane a number of times, and in all honesty, is disappointing. It's been around for ever, and the brunch is about 10x better than dinner.
I live less than a block away from Porcini - and have heard from friends that this is a great option for a romantic dinner - I think I'll have to check this one out. |

DJ. Admittedly it's romantic, but the food has always been a bit . . . interesting. |
Thumbs down on Astral Plane. All kitcsch and no kitch(en). You're better off at the quaint BYO next door (La Baia).
