Dinner in DC this weekend... specific help needed
 

Contrary to most dining needs, I am actually looking for style over substance for this trip. I am treating my wife to a concert/suite at the Park Hyatt and we need a dinner spot. Her tastes are pedestrian compared to most... as such, I am looking for a place high on style for the fun factor and low on the complex, fancy food scale. The hotel is close to Georgetown so something in that area would be ideal. Agraria looks great, but the menu is more limited than I expected. Filomena has the menu, but style/service sounds low. Georgia Brown's sounds great but not in Gtown and perhaps a bit 'older' atmosphere. TenPenh and co. will likely be impossible to reserve at the time I am looking for.

For a great setting with not necessarily A++ food, I would suggest looking into either 1789 or Cafe Milano. Milano is definitely a see-and-be-seen type of atmosphere - I've seen Dick Cheney, etc. dining there, so if that would be "fun" for you guys, it's a good option. 1789 is more traditional, but definitely a "we're spending big bucks to go out to a nice place" type of feel.

Wouldnt be so sure Tenh Penh is booked, but also wouldn't rush there.

Other choices, Oceanaire, Bistro Lepic (in Georgetown, not super fancy - I just like it).

Also, to me the ultimate in style over substance is Sequoia in the Georgetown Harbor waterfront. Not that the food is bad, just that the view is really what you are paying for, the food is fine.

The Sequoia gets my vote. You might want to check or inquire if any of the tables in the bar area upstairs is available. Has the best view of the Key Bridge area of the river and Rosslyn. Up one level from the main dining floor.

Of course! Duh! How could I forget Sequoia.

It's too bad it isn't summertime, when you could sit outside...but if you can get a good table, you still have an amazing view.

Just be careful (and this definitely applies to Sequoia, but given the time of year should probably be asked of any restaurant you're considering) because it does tend to book a lot of holiday parties, which tend to get the prime space.

for style over substance, consider a potomac dinner/dancing cruise thing on Spirit or Dandy.

Milano and Sequoia are great choices. inquire as to window table availablity at sequoia.

cabing is not bad in dc after 730-8pm.

My wife's tastes are also a bit pedestrian. She really enjoyed the Old Ebbitt Grill on a recent weekend trip to DC. Not sure if that meets your style factor.
