DCA Security-Liquids Question

I have a friend that will be travelling out of DCA shortly and had a question about the liquid allowances. Try as I might, I couldn't find a concrete answer online. Can she bring 1 oz. bottles of liquor in her 1 quart bag through security? Apparently, whatever her drink du jour is, she can't purchase it on the plane and wants to bring the bottles with her. TSA says no beverages over 3 oz. inthe bag, but also doesn't list beverages on the "allowed" list. Anybody have experience with this?

Can she buy something at Duty Free and walk it through?

I do not think there is a duty free at DCA. I do not recall one.

Well, that's a slightly different question than the OP posed. There is duty-free shopping at DCA; in the middle pier, a couple of the kiosks sell "duty free" liquor and tchochkes to pax departing for Canada. Always struck me as a bit of an empty gesture.

To the OP: I haven't tried putting beverages in a ziploc, but I can't imagine any TSA staffer would notice what color your friend's mouthwash is, as long as the bottle's the right size...

Or perhaps she should have a doctor/pharmacist friend issue a "prescription label" for the liquor. :D

You might be able to get away with the 1 or 2 ozs, but Duty free does not exempt you from the liquid ban - I just flew back from Australia and there were all these warnings in the duty free that if you bought wine and were flying to the US it would be confiscated at the gate (where they did a very tight search of each person).

Had my fingers crossed for 12,000 miles that the wine in my checked bag would survive and it did :)
