Philly nightlife

We have an internet group who will all be gathering in Philly for a weekend in Nov. We are trying to find ideas about the nightlife. Most of us will be in the 30's-40's age group so no techno stuff. Maybe classic rock or karaoke? There could be anywhere from 10-30 people there.

One approach would be to browse the Philadelphia Weekly, which has a comprehensive list of bars and clubs. I assume you will be staying downtown/Center City. Most of that area is pretty walkable, or a US$ 5 taxi ride.

The Old City area is fun for groups. There are a few restaurants with a cuban/latin flare, with live music and salsa lessons. One example would be Cuba Libre, there is also Little Brasil. Alternative music can be found at the Silk City Diner and its neighboring bar/club (I can't recall the name). The default would be the city's irish bars: Finnegan's Wake is pretty popular, very large. Dark Horse Pub near South Street has a great selection of beers and has a smoke-free room (Philly does not have a smoking ban as yet). The Bards on Walnut St. pours the best pint of Guiness in the city. If you have never been, Dave and Busters on Penn's Landing is an adult's playground (pool tables, arcade games, beer, etc.) I don't know much about Karaoke spots as that is not my preferred venue :), but browsing Philly Weekly online should give you a sense of which bars offer it and on what days.

Hope you enjoy your stay. If you're staying/working/meeting downtown, there is NO need to a rental car.
