Avoid Jurys Hotel - Dupont Circle Washington DC
I strongly recommend that everyone avoid this hotel, at least in the summer. It is located right on DuPont Circle. It is now after 10 pm and for the last two hours, a "band" comprised of 10 trombones and a drummer has been playing. Even with the windows shut, the noise makes it impossible to sleep.
The hotel says that DC has no noise ordinance and there is nothing they can do. The band could play all night, according to the front desk If that is the case, the only solution is not to stay here. Be warned! |

The "music" ended after 11 am. Guess I was lucky! For the first hour, it was mildly amusing.
This morning, the hotel clerk told me that they usually play only on Saturday evenings, and that they just give guests the number for the police, when they call the front desk to complain. I suggested they pay the band to go play elsewhere. I am sure it would be a good investment for the hotel. I would avoid that hotel for other reasons. Rather poor condition. Unfortunately, the US government seems to think it is fine for their consultants. :td: |

Not that I could tell. I must admit that on the way back to the hotel from the restaurant, I stood and listened to them for a while. That was the "mildly amusing" part. It was all impromptu jazz type music that almost never ended. With 10 trombonists, a few could drop out to rest without any noticeable change in the decibel level. It sounded much like Mardi Gras! |

I've seen them around - they aren't terrible - adds ambience to nightlife when you are taking a stroll. Tuesday night though seems a bit early - I guess tourisim is def. at it's peak.

I stayed here last Saturday and it was fine. The location and being near to the metro stop make it the place to stay. And for $119 in D.C. of all places it's a good value. Of course it's in the gayborhood which is a plus for me.

Anyone looking for a hotel in the Dupont Circle area (or any other DC area for that matter) might want to post a question before booking and I'm sure some of us might be able to suggest more suitable places to stay.

If you're looking for peace and quiet, Dupont and Adams Morgan are the last places you should be looking. The nightlife in both neighbourhoods is fairly active every night.
You're better off in a more residential hood. |

If you want to stay in the immediate area but be off of the main drags, there's some Art Deco hotel just up NH Ave. a couple blocks, between R and S on the E side of the St. Can't recall the name.

I live in this area and can say that it is actually not that noisy, except in a few specific places such as Dupont Circle itself as indicated above and the heart of Adams-Morgan, Columbia and 18th streets. Dupont Circle (the neighborhood) and especially Adams-Morgan are actually mostly residential areas. |
