washington dc

got a couple questions about dc. i will be going there july-8-10. already talked to my senators office about tour tickets to the white house. but what im really interested in is the national archives and the bureau of printing and engraving. they only give away tickets early in the morning and i dont fly in until 10am. is there any possible way to get these. they dont have tours on saturdays. any ideas? anything else cool to see with the treasury?

I dunno about Archives, but BEP last I checked had a way to get tix a week in advance (just one week in advance, though, so you'd call first thing July 1 to make your reservation). Let me see if I can dig up a link....

Ack, looks like they changed it since then. :( You can go in to see the (small) visitor's center there at the BEP; that's all I've ever managed to see.

Sorry, didn't turn out to be too helpful....

Be sure to also contact your House member's office (the Senate offices have to service the entire state). The link provided by Crazy One mentions a Congressional/VIP tour (I haven't taken this myself) but I would call your Member of Congress's Washington office TODAY!

I have a friend who's a tour guide at the BEP and he says tickets are usually available until at least 1:00 p.m. The American History Museum or the Holocaust Museum are also great places to visit. You can book Holocaust Museum tickets in advance online for a nominal fee.
