Dulles
My inlaws are flying into Dulles (they could get a nonstop there, but not National). Anyway, I will fly to Dulless too.
Never Been there. I am a Continental PC member. I will most likely be flying either Alaska or United (I am turning in miles). Will I be able to acess the Continental Presidents Club, or should I try to trade for some Red Carpet Club passes? |
How much time do you have?
Did a quick look up and it doesn't look like their is a Continental PC at IAD, although there is a NW WorldClub you should be able to use in the B concourse.
The concourses are connected by 'mobile lounges', basically funky buses that run approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Depending on what concourse you arrive or depart it will take 5 to 20 minutes each way. Their are two RCC in concourse C and one in concourse D. It's actually the same building. I'd recommend the one near gate C17 - it's close to the mobile lounge gates and fairly good sized, although it will be crowded during peak travel times. Here's a map http://www.united.com/page/article/0,1360,1124,00.html Unless you have a lot of time to kill, I'd pass on the RCC passes, unless you can get a day pass at a good deal. You might want to check if the day pass allows guests. Cheers, Jeff |
The standard RCC day passes do not permit guests; I confirmed this a couple weeks ago when I was trying to get passes for some relatives going through NRT. They're also $50 apiece. Plus IAD is a United hub and its primary East Coast gateway, so the lounges may be crowded. Lastly, except for UA, which occupies the "temporary" C-D and G terminals, most lounges are in the new, spacious B concourse, a much nicer place to hang out if the lounge is closed or you otherwise can't get in. Given all that, a partner lounge may be the best bet.

I want to fly UA because they have a nonstop and I have miles to use. Is it possible to get to the NWA lounge in councourse B without exiting the security zone when I am flying UA? If I have to exit security it is not worth it to me.

http://www.metwashairports.com/Dulle...rm/iadtrem.pdf You do not have to exit security. Look at an IAD map. There is also an AF lounge, with limited hours. The NW lounge is significiently better than the RCC, in my opinion. The RCC serves VA wines at $5-8 a glass, whereas NW provides some CA jug wine for free. The jug wine is much better. The RCC lounges are frequently packed, and very noisy with important cell phone calls, the NW lounge seems pretty empty, when we were there from 3 to 5pm. |
