IAD to Sheraton Reston, late - transfer options?

In a few weeks' time, I'm scheduled to arrive at IAD at 10 pm on a Friday night for a weekend stay. I've got to get to the Sheraton Reston.

At that time of the night (particularly as it will be 3 am body clock time before we even start on the immigration thing), I'm not keen to mess about waiting up to 30 minutes for the hotel shuttle. For most of the weekend, I will need a rental car, which I'm assuming will be most easily picked up at IAD.

So would I be best off:-
  • Getting the hotel shuttle anyway, and then shuttling back to IAD the next morning to pick up the car?
  • Getting a taxi to the hotel? (Will they go that short a distance from IAD?) And then shuttling back to IAD the next morning for the car.
  • Go and pick up the car on arrival and then drive over?
Would be grateful for all thoughts and advice.

TIA!

If you don't mind the money, I'd go with the taxi to the hotel - sleep and then go back the next day for the rental car. You're 5-10 minutes from the airport, its a quick ride, and hopefully the shuttle won't be busy and they'll drop you at the rental car place (or the end of their driveway) instead of the main terminal to pick up the shuttle.

Enjoy your trip.

Just to report back: Got a cab, no hassles with the short trip and Reston was listed as a destination on the info leaflet handed out by the despatcher so it must be a common destination. I think there was about $13 or $14 on the meter by the time we got to the hotel. But it was fast and exactly what we needed at that time of the night.

The next morning, the hotel shuttle bus driver kindly dropped us off at Hertz rather than at the airport, as you predicted, as he had nobody else on board but us. That saved us quite a few minutes as well - it was great.

Thanks again for the advice!
