IAD tunnel to Concourse B opening

The new moving-sidewalk pedestrian tunnel connecting the Main Terminal and Concourse B is scheduled to open on Friday, November 19. There will be escalators and elevators at both ends of course. This will eventually replace the moon-buggy rides to B, but the phaseout schedule on that is yet to be determinaed.

Have to provide some kind of sealed/secure transport for quaranteened passengers to make their way to customs/immigration. Replace the people movers with busses?

I'm assuming that they will keep the people movers for international arrivals - Concourse B is pretty much designed around them (with the sterile corridors leading to regular bus boarding points).

Exactly. They will probably phase out the mobile lounges from Main-to-B rather quickly - and there is talk of moving the Main-to-C mobile lounges in the Main Terminal to where the B lounges now arrive/depart.

Duplicate post - sorry.

Tunnel to B opening 11/19 5AM

Got a behind-the-scenes tour of the new tunnel this morning. (Looks a lot like the tunnel from Garage 1 to the Main Terminal.) Long escalators (4 at each end, but a couple at the B end won't be ready for the opening), elevators too, and 3 moving sidewalk sections in each direction.

Access at the B end will be where the mobile lounges used to dock, roughly between gates B32 and B35 - right next to California Pizza Kitchen.

So, has the tunnel actually opened?

Thanks.

Yes, the tunnel opened early Friday morning (11/19). The signage, as usual, could be a bit better, but it seems to work very smoothly. The B shuttle is now operating every 20 minutes for those who might insist on it, but it will be phased out pretty soon I suppose.
