Bag storage at IAD?
I wonder if anybody knows if there is a place to store bags at Dulles overnight? I'm going to stay in D.C. for a week, then catch a flight to Boston for an overnighter, then returning to Dulles, and continuing on to Asia. I'd really like to not lug all my stuff up to Boston for one night.....Is there anyplace to leave bags at Dulles, and if not, any other potential options for me??
Thanks.... |

http://www.mwaa.com/dulles/index.htm "Special Information for Travelers: In light of the new security procedures here are some things to remember if you are coming to Washington Dulles International Airport: ... There are no facilities for short or long term luggage storage at the airport. ..." Where are you staying for the week in DC? If out by Dulles, leave the luggage with the hotel's bell staff (tip well). I'm sure that bags have been left there for much longer than 24hrs. If possible, strike up a conversation with the hotel's shuttle bus driver. For a nice tip, he may put the luggage in the bus for a scheduled route / trip over to IAD that happens to coincide with your arrival from BOS at IAD. Staying downtown? Try same thing (doubtful that many downtown DC hotels have regular - free - shuttles between downtown and IAD). But, a doorman or bellman may have ideas or a "friend" (favorite cabby, car service, etc.) willing to bring out the luggage for a small fee. Staying in downtown DC and can't get the downtown bellman or doorman to assist, try calling an IAD-area hotel where you have "status." Ask for manager, explain. Cross-fingers and hope. Find a really cheap (priceline ?) hotel at IAD. Try the abovementioned steps or check in with your extra bags, leave in room with do not disturb sign out. Come back next day, pick up bags, check out. Keep in mind all of these may raise the specter of "why is this person leaving behind luggage?" Expect people to be jumpy about this. Renting a car for your week-long trip? How about the admittedly pricey option of keeping the car for an extra day (with luggage inside - use the trunk) and parking it at the airport. Arrive from BOS at IAD, get rental car out of parking, return car and your off to Asia. Google search provides no additional options. |
