Restaurant Week DC

Next week is Restaurant week in Wash DC. $20 lunch, $30 dinner. Last year DC Coast allowed the whole menu, not just a couple of specials.

I will be going to Ortanique on Tues, as Tues is half price wine day.

The other restaurants I will try to get to are:1789, Melrose, Morrison-Clark, New Heights, Seasons, Signatures, TenPenh, Vidalia, and Bistro Bis.

Charlie Palmer Steak, Equinox, Oceanaire Seafood Room, Sea Catch and Signatures are some of the top dining spots extending their Restaurant Week $20.04 lunch and/or $30.04 dinner menus throughout January.

Bistro Bis -- highly recommend their French Onion soup, though I'm keen on the place generally. They offer one of the best brunch deals in town on an ongoing basis -- Saturday and Sunday, 3-couse brunch, anything on the menu, $20.

Elysium (what I assume you're referring to as Morrison-Clark) has fallen a bit and I haven't been back in about 11 months. But it holds a special place for me still.

Vidalia used to be my favorite restaurant in DC. It declined a bit, got a new chef, and I haven't been back since they renovated. Thanks for the reminder, I think I'll pop in there soon!

Most interesting thing about Signatures is, I think, that they deliver sushi!

Re: New Heights, please backchannel me.

Elysium is in the Morrison House in Alexandria. A small Lux hotel(never stayed there) with a very fine restaurant in a very lovely room(as long as the bar crowd does not get too loud singing "Sweet Adeline".

Morrison-Clark is a small lux hotel on Mass Ave(1000 or so NW) where Susan somebody or another used to cook. I do not think the restaurant has a name.

I have never eaten at the no name restaurant. The Elysium is one of the closest restaurants to my house, and I have eaten there quite a few times. The food is always good, but they go through chefs faster than Danny S goes through coaches.

Joe Gibbs has returned. Hail the conquering hero!

Went to Ortanique and Signatures so far. This is the first time I have actually eaten the food week menus.

Ortanique was very good, with a decent selection, and Signatures was spectacular. The chef is in his mid 20's, and he really can cook. Free valet parking.

Both places are somewhat noisy.

Getting a table is not easy. skipped TenPenh, as 5:00 and 9:00 was all that was avialable on two different days.

I noticed a couple of two-fers for Restaurant Week --- restaurants on their list and also on iDine!!!

I am going to David Greggory tonight -- been waiting to try it.

RE: Vidalia -- I had heard the same, that the food/service had dropped off a bit. But they closed for a while, re-tooled, new chef, etc. I will be going to a catered meeting there next week (I know, not the best way to judge a restaurant) but will report back.

Actually David Greggory was a 3-fer... Restaurant Week, iDine, and Open Table. http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...um/biggrin.gif

(Ortanique was, as well... along with TenPenh and DC Coast, I think.)
