Amtrak at BWI?

How easy is it to take Amtrak to BWI? Is there a stop at the airport, or just near the airport?

There is a free shuttle bus that runs between BWI airport and BWI rail station. The train station is pretty close by.

If you are coming from DC or BAlt, the MARC also stops at the BWI train sta. The Light Rail runs from Balt to the airport terminal.

Not all Amtrak trains stop at the BWI sta.

Trains starting North of NY, and South of DC to run the NY-DC corridor have a lousy on time record.

There is a shuttle from the train sta to the plane sta, but I do not know the schedule, or who runs the thing.

When I tried it, there was no under-bus storage and the bus aisles were not wide enough to wheel my suitcase.

On the train, there was also little luggage storage space.

I wouldn't again use this method with baggage.

I thought I'd take Amtrak from BWI-WAS (Union Station) this past Sunday morning. So from my hotel at BWI Saturday night I called Amtrak to find that my A.M. options were 5:4xAM then 9:2xAM. I had found out the day before that MARC doesn't run on weekends. The pleasant people at the Fairfield Inn did not offer any suggestion besides a taxi. I thought of Supershuttle from BWI to DC ($30) for a cheaper option for one (but ended up sharing a cab (about $25 each for two people)).

SFOJFK posted this handy news about a 7-days-a-week bus to a Metro station.

To revive the posting on affordable bus service to/from DC area to BWI, this is the link to the schedule for the Express Bus that runs from the Greenbelt Metro stop to BWI for $2... about every half hour during metro operation times.

To people that aren't from around DC, this means take the Bus to the Metro, then Metro to DC area.... downtown for roughly $5 and in about 45 mins from when you board the bus.

I personally use the MARC Train service which is $5 or $2 (3? for Seniors). This is by far the most reliable way to get you to BWI as the trains are generally on time and don't get stuck in the really bad traffic that the DC/Baltimore corridor suffers from during rush hour.

Just stumbling onto this, but thanks for that bus info! Seems to make a connection to DC Metro from BWI a more viable solution on weekends. (Weekdays I think it's hard to beat the MARC.) Bus to Greenbelt Metro, perfect idea, and very good price.
