Dulles: minimum reposition time?
For work reasons, I'm trying to leave my hometown as late as possible WITHOUT ACTUALLY MISSING THE FLIGHT, lol. What's the minimum reposition time you'd leave for Dulles?
Coming into C or D (UA), departing almost certainly from A (AF). AF is J, so no real need to board the second it starts as long as we make it before doors close. No checked bags. Okay with a bit of hustling. Am the type to show up to airport 1hr before flight (w/ precheck), so pretty chill with tight connections. What's in the realm of safe vs stupid? Yes I know .... can happen any time, it's just a long time since have connected through Dulles. Thanks! |
One ticket or two tickets?

2 people, and not like a toddler or anything :-P

How many daily flights does UA have from your home airport to IAD? If your UA flight were cancelled, would you be within a reasonable driving distance of IAD? |
It's an award flight, so minimum financial hardship. I'm aware of all the possibilities and combinations, I really was just hoping for a vague "I'd never connect in under X minutes at Dulles" type statement from people who pass through there often. But there's variables, I get it. NBD.

For IAD, not knowing if you come into C or D, I wouldn’t be comfortable with anything under an hour. Also, note that IAD has many late afternoon thunder storms in the summer that can throw everything sideways.

It’s not hard to get around the airport but it can be a long walk
you have a train connecting C, A, and main terminal and a train connecting B and main terminal thrn there is the mobile box from D to main terminal and I think to A as well also what kind of plane coming in in? If you are flying a large plane it take longer to get out than a crop duster if you fly United in you could be on a smaller regional and come into A 1-6 tarmac gates do you want to get food before your int flight? That adds time |
This is the reverse of traversing from the TK lounge to UA flights in C/D. I usually plan for 20 minutes for that as a fast walker. Can be less depending on where in C/D you are or how long you have to wait for the mobile lounge / train. I usually leave the TK lounge 50 mins to an hour before a flight from C/D. Obviously your assumed arrival time on UA and time to deplane you can estimate; I am not considering any of that, just travel time between points in the airport.
