Reagan (DCA) short layover enough?

I have just booked a flight which has a layover in Reagan (DCA). The flights are both American Airlines and both in terminal C but the layover is 39 minutes. The AA rep said minimum connecting time is 30 minutes and that the number is pretty accurate. Should I stick with this flight or really consider looking for something else? (keep in mind I am a younger passenger so if I need to jog I can)

Terminal C pier is quite small - the farthest any two gates are from each other is around 100 yards - so you wont need to jog from one gate to the other.

However, if your first leg experiences a significant delay you will still probably miss the connecting flight. You should make sure your connection is not the last flight of the evening.....

unfortunately it is the last flight of the night so it seems like the flight being delayed would be the only risk, a gamble over staying the night at the airport. I'll just have to decide off that
