2hrs in Buffalo

Good evening

I'm making a connection to BUF from Toronto and will have two hours to kill on a Saturday morning before I need to check in. I'd rather spend my time in the city than waiting around at the airport. Any suggestions for things to do? I'll only have a small bag.

Thanks!

I'm confused. You're connecting to Buffalo? Or are you connecting in Buffalo?

clacko May 3, 2013 2:06 pm

you have 2 hours in toronto?

i wouldn't leave the terminal w/that short time...

PTY1K May 3, 2013 2:29 pm

I'm travelling by bus from Toronto to Buffalo; I'll have about two hours before I need to start heading to the airport (assuming the bus is on schedule).

I hope it is not too early when your there; but, I'd recommend having a Beef on Weck sandwich if you enjoy delicious food (the ones I've had in the BUF airport weren't too bad either).

That does look good, I think lunch is now sorted! Thanks for the link.

Realistically, and without a car, getting from BUF to pretty much anywhere in the area is going to be a problem. Even if you had transportation, two hours is really not enough time to do much of anything.

Go for the beef on weck, have a drink, people-watch, and hope the flights are on time.

For Beef on Weck, Charlie the Butcher has a location only a mile away from the airport. My choice in Buffalo.

Not much sight seeing in Buffalo

Yoshi212 May 3, 2013 8:36 pm

What's the scheduled bus arrival time and location? are you arriving on a bus to the airport or is there a stop in downtown also?
Downtown has some possibly interesting things to see.
What are your age(s) & interests.
Is this soon or of not when?

Maybe OP from the UK is thinking about a scenic stop at either side of the Niagara Falls (and the casinos ;) in support of local "economic development") - between Toronto & Buffalo's airport - as the buses, after the border crossing - would head south on I-190 and then I-290, passing Amherst (University of Buffalo a/k/a UB campus ... not much to see, really)

Downtown Buffalo is about 11 miles from the airport, typical 20-25 minutes drive time, except at rush hours. Greyhound and/or MegaBus would only stop at their designated terminal(s) and won't just let you off anywhere along its approved route, and a taxi ride just isn't worth it for the 2 hours in total as they are radio-dispatched (can't just hail them on the street as they don't cruise around, AFAIK ... locals) If OP decided to rent a car doing a one-way, then it's a different scenerio.

Concensus as others said, just enjoy the ride down & have a good bite, and hang out until boarding/departure time - it's a relatively small int'l terminal so getting thru should be easy enough. :D

Thanks for the replies.

I've been to Niagara already so wasn't planning to head back on this visit. Happy enough hanging around in bars before the flight but wondered if there was anything else worth seeing in the city.

I'm travelling on Greyhound to avoid the mega pricey international flights from YTZ. My flight from BUF is a domestic to CLE.

The Pierce Arrow Car Museum is a few blocks from the downtown bus station. While it's not an amazing museum is it a nice tribute to the car which was produced in Buffalo and they have a good sample of various types of the models.
You can then grab a bite to eat downtown at one of the many restaurants there. A cheap bus runs from the bus station to the airport or you could use a car if there is a group of you.

As this query is specific to one destination, we'll move this to the Mid-Atlantic forum for further discussion. Thanks! :) /JY1024, TravelBuzz co-moderator
