Update
 
For what it's worth, thought I'd report out that my friend took bus (Megabus) both-ways i.e. round-trip from NYC to Baltimore...no delays either way, in-fact the journey took about 3 hrs each-way...quite comfortable and cheap...about $20 each-way.
