There are a couple of Indian restaurants on Connecticut Avenue across the street from the Woodley Park metro station. I do not recommend them. In general the restaurants in that area depend too much on the easy traffic from the Marriott Wardman Park and Omni Shoreham. A pity, since it is my neighborhood.

I ate at Aditi in Georgetown a few nights ago. Mediocre.

I ate at Rasika in Gallery Place a month or two ago -- pretty good, though expensive.

Since I live in MD we don't know too much about VA restaurants. However, our favorite Indian restaurant (always on the Washingtonian's lists of Best 100 and Cheap Eats) is Bombay Bistro, which has locations in both MD and VA (www.bombaybistro.com for the Rockville MD location and http://bombaybistrova.com/ for the Fairfax VA location).

Great food and fantastic lunch buffet.

Delhi Dhaba is good, quick food. I ate there all the time (especially Sunday buffet) when I was in grad school.

The wife and I love Jaipur. I was a fan of Bombay Palace on K Street and rued its demise. Jaipur (foodwise) is a good substitute. The closest Downtown food in the same price class would be Aroma on Eye Street.

I do like B.Club, but it is ideed raj cuisine.

Yes. There are some great Vietnamese places out at and around the Eden center, unfortunately they arent easy to get to by metro. I ate at one past there two years ago, a bit past the Eden Center but not too far. Im not sure of the name but it was probably Four Sisters. It was excellent....

The Four Sisters has moved out to a new complex called Strawberry Lane about a mile down Gallows Road from the Dunn-Loring station. It is right near my Northern VA job and has become our main "go-to" place for lunch. :)

There is also a pretty good Indian place named Haandi on 7 in Falls Church. It has dishes from all over India but, like the Four Sisters, is nearly a mile from a Metro stop, in this case the West Falls Church station.

Another vote for Rasika. I forgot about it in my earlier post. Food is really top notch. Expect the bill to do serious damage to your bank account ;).

New place in Fairfax City on Main Street called CURRY MANTRA. Tom Sietsma gave it a very nice "First Bites" preview in the Washington Post recently.

We ate there last night and, while not very informed on Indian cuisine, enjoyed it. Excellent food, and surprisingly modest prices.

Not close to any MetroRail station, but easy to get to via the CUE Green bus from the Vienna MetroRail station.

I also second Rasika in Penn Quarter. For about half the price, but 7/8 the tase try Masala Art on Wisconsin near National Cathedral. (Street parking too.)

Rasika ^
Bombay Club ^

(both high end and very good; owned by the same guy)

In Virginia, I like the Shirlington branch of Aroma (the original is downtown and mentioned earlier in this thread) and (further out) Dishes of India just south of Old Town Alexandria (phenominal lamb khorma).

By the way, Jaipur is not a bad walk from the Vienna metro station. Exit the south side of the station and turn left, walk down the street that is closed off by a chain (Deer Hollow Way), past the townhouses and apartments to Lee Highway and it's a bit across the street on the right. Probably about a half mile walk.

For metro-able Vietnamese, I think Minh's near Courthouse is the best you can do. You might also look for Rebel Heroes, a banh mih truck that is sometimes in Arlington at lunch time.

Rasika is not only the best Indian restaurant in the city, but one of the best restaurants in the city period.

Four Sisters is quite good, but I prefer Huong Viet in the Eden Center. Bun Bo Hue to die for.

So noted. Sounds like Thursday or Friday it will get its business from us.

I have not tried any places in the Eden Center for a few years rather for convenience have just mostly hit Four Sisters or the Pho place on the SE corner of Graham Road and Arlington Blvd.

I haven't ever try to eat at Vietnamese food before. Where is it? Does they have one in PHX?

Everyone raves about Rasika, and it's good, not terribly expensive - good location in town.

Vietnamese is a great choice in the Virginia suburbs, and having been a few times and eating at one of these restaurants at least once a week, here are my options:

* Cafe Saigon - Falls Church Cafe Saigon Central Vietnamese food (couldn't tell by the name :) ) well worth the trip to Virginia

* Minh's - Arlington Minh's Great food with a bit nicer presence and a bit closer to town

* Pho 75 - Arlington Pho 75 Great pho, exactly what you'd get in any pho hall in Vietnam - and under US$7, a great option!

* Nhu Lan Banh Mi - Falls Church Nhu Lan In my opinion the best Banh Mi in Washington and under US$3 for a filling sandwich. If you are slightly adventurous, try the combination sandwich - amazing flavours

I obviously have more experience with Vietnamese than Indian, but if you want a good experience in Washington, head to Eden Center, Cafe Saigon (across the street) and Nhu Lan are both there and there are a few other good restaurants (Viet Bistro for one...) there.

Just where we went for lunch on Friday. One of our real favorites in the neighborhood.

It's right down the street from the job and we can get in and out of one of the best places around in not much more than a half an hour. ^

The have, however, recently raised their prices to $6.75 for small and $7.75 for larger. We can still afford it. :D :D
