Corning Museum of Glass
 

We'll be passing through the Finger Lakes region this summer. I'm curious whether it's worth stopping to visit CMOG. It looks interesting, but I also have 2 teenagers so I'm worried they may not engage in the experience like I would :rolleyes:

It is a very interesting museum. The day we were there, the glassblowing display was offline, but there was still a lot to look at and things to do. Some of the collections can be viewed pretty quickly (unless you are really into looking at all of the details, of course), there were some very nice glass-as-art pieces, and some cool interactive things.

I'd love to go back sometime just for the hands-on make-your-own experience.

My son was a teenager when we went. There were things to keep him interested - glass in science/space program/etc. I'd definitely stop by if you're in the area anyway. It's worth seeing and you don't need to commit a day to it - a couple of hours will be fine.

I went there some time ago carrying my pack of five teenaged nephews with me. They all enjoyed it and it was I who had to drag them away from the exhibits.

They all loved the glassblowing, and were enthralled about high-tech ceramics.

It compared favorably to the Kyocera Museum in Kyoto, my previous mark for excellence in ceramic museums. Actually, the only other one I've seen.

It's a great museum. Note that it can get rather crowded at times as it's a popular stop for the tour busses on their way to Niagara Falls from NYC.
