PVR in May - Should I Cancel?

I'm getting a little concerned about the swine flu in Mexico. Scheduled for Puerto Vallarta the week of May 16th. Delta Airlines and the Westin Regina Timeshare currently does not allow cancelations without a steep fee. RCI the timeshare rep says they will not waive fees unless there is a ban on travel.

Should I still go? Can anyone in PRV describe how the mood is in the city. Is there panic?

American Airlines has already instituted a cancellation/change policy. I am sure others will follow.

RCI is evil.

If you paid by credit card, you stand an excellent chance of getting your credit card processor to fully "charge-back" all fees paid.

I think you would be crazy to travel to Mexico until things settle down.

I don't live anywhere near PVR, but everything in Mexico has slowed down considerably, just as an example, all non-essential business throughout the country have been given a holiday until may 5th, so the pace here is pretty slow. Nothing to do, nothing to see and some paranoia.

The only place to avoid by all means is Mexico City, but the thing is the rest of the country is living in paranoia and everything is closed and seeing everybody in masks is not a good view for vacations. The actual threat outside MEX is pretty low, but the fear is at the highest, the government has been pushing towards a lot of preventive measures which would help to sweep the virus asap.

May 15th is the earliest and very optimistic forecast of when things will return to work normally.

We know someone ( a 90 yr old woman and her friends!) who are in Cabo at Playa Grande right now. They are having a blast, whatever that is for the 90 yr old set.

Staff are wearing masks (not effective re viruses) but the tourists are just doing their thing.

I am supposed to go to the CP in San Jose del Cabo May 21, and right now I am still planning to go. I will probably only cancel if they close borders.

Is that anywhere near San Jose del Cabo?

Oops! yes!

There have been zero cases of flu in the Puerto Vallarta region or the Los Cabos region and nobody with the virus reported elsewhere has come from either place. Go and have fun.
