Cabo Wabo

I'm thinking of heading to Cabo San Lucas from March 29-April 2. I would stay at the all-inclusive Crowne Plaza. Using that as a starting point, can anyone give informed opinions on...

A) Will I like the CP?

B) What goes on in the area that I could do?

C) How much money is one likely to spend when staying in an all-inclusive? (Some tips, and some going out)

D) How safe is the area?

Thanks.

Crowne Plaza

Funnily enough I am planning a similar trip the same week. I think the all-inclusive reward is a pretty good deal at the CP. But I havent stayed there yet...

Its important to note that the CP is not in Cabo San Lucas, its in San Jose del Cabo. One report was that its a $35 cab ride each way to CSL from the CP.

I assume you have found the special deal on the Priority Club website, which gives you 5k bonus points(plus a few other goodies) for each reward night you redeem?

There are a couple informative threads about the Crowne Plaza in the Priority Club Hotel Forum.

Good Luck!

I have not seen the 5K bonus. Can you point me in the right direction?

CP in San Jose del Cabo

We have stayed at the Crowne Plaza a number of times. It really is pretty much all inclusive as far as cost goes. Tip is supposed to be included also, but we have found that a little extra tipping goes a long way there, particularly for bar service in the pool area.

A couple of times when we were there the resort activity director organized a bus ride into Cabo at night for the party animals. This was probably cheaper than a cab. keep in mind, you can probably negotiate a decent rate with a cab too to go into Cabo.

You can rent a car or set up other kinds of excursions at a desk in the lobby. My family has done different things, including jet ski and snorkeling. All were enjoyed.

The thing we love about the CP as compared to other Los Cabos resorts like the IC is that it is right on the beach. Spend the extra money for the beach front room and you won't regret it. You can hang on the edge in the infinity pool and get a good view up and down the beach too. The sounds of the waves rolling in during an otherwise quiet night-heaven!

A) Check reviews & ratings

B) There isn't much to do in SJ del Cabo thus I recommend going into Cabo San Lucas for night life (Cabo Wabo is in Cabo San Lucas). Also, many of the San Jose del Cabo resorts offer either a complimentary shared shuttle service a paid shared shuttle for about $20USD each way. This is a better alternative to the $30-40USD each way for a taxi.

C) I've stayed at several AIs. Even w/gratuities often included in rate, I tip the porter & housekeeper as I like extra towels and my bags promptly delivered. I also tip the bartender at the pool bar to ensure I receive top-shelf liquor in my cocktails. If the restaurants are buffet or self-serve style and the waiter only brings/refills beverages, I just tip a few dollars (USD, not pesos). About $10/pp a day should suffice in tipping at an AI provided it's a gratuities included resort and you'd like better service...otherwise standard tipping rates apply. BTW- unlike other parts of Mexico, USDs are widely accepted in Cabo San Lucas & the resorts/hotels.

D) I have a condo in Cabo San Lucas (Marina area) which is about 30 minutes from San Jose del Cabo & the Crowne Plaza. I always take the general precautions I would take anywhere I travel (not leaving possessions unattended, flashing currency, wearing expensive jewelry, etc). The only people I know who have had problems are the ones who were highly intoxicated thus an easy target for pick-pocketing, price gouging, etc.
In Cabo San Lucas, if you stay w/in the Cabo Wabo and Marina area you should be okay.

Most of the beaches are not suitable for swimming as there is a heavy under tow. There have been many drownings of tourists who do not heed the warning signs. I recommend going to Medano Beach (located in Cabo San Lucas) for swimming. It's a safe swimming beach w/a lot to do including water sports. Billygans and the Office are located on Medano Beach and often have all day happy hour and good food.

There's a shared shuttle from the airport to San Jose del Cabo for about $14USD per person. You can pay upon exiting the airport or arrange it w/your hotel ahead of time for just a few extra dollars. Also, right after you go through customs, you may be inundated by timeshare salespersons offering you free transportation to your hotel...bypass them and just get the paid shuttle service.

I hope this helps.

.

help get the answers you want by explaining are you going single, is this a "special" trip with your sig other?, do you like nightlife, what type of dining, is renting a car of interest, do you typically stay at AI's ? etc etc. More info you give, better answers you get.

There are also a lot of threads on the Cabo area, just use search and find some might help clarify your questions as well.

We were just in Cabo about 10 days ago for a partial day on a visit from a cruise ship. The only thing we did there was take a whale watching boat. We saw a couple dozen humpback whales. The boat we were on accommodated maybe 40-50 people and they served us margaritas and chips and salsa. We didn't see many boats at big as ours, there were plenty of smaller boats out there too. It was worth the time and money to do this.
