Acapulco Questions

In the 80's and early 90's we used to go every year to either the Acapulco Princess or Las Brisas for a week. I haven't been there in a while and if anyone has been to either place or knows of a better place, please advise.I just would like an update on if they are still one of the best places to go, or newer places would be better.

I stayed at Acapulco's Las Brisas a few years back and loved it. Had the private pool casita. Great view of the bay. Loved the fresh fruit basket each morning. Service was great. It's a good little ways from "town" though. Great rates from Different World.

I visited Villa Vera a few months ago. It's up on a hill from the Condesa area, as I recall. Quite classy w/ health spa and tennis courts. They are quite proud of their history...pictures in the landscape commemorate the famous guests from decades past. I wanted to stay closer to the beach and did not want to pay the premium for luxury, so I stayed elsewhere.

Acapulco?

based on the lack of responses, and others' opinions, I guess Acapulco is not the in place to go anymore.I think we may check out the Cancun/Tulum area possibly.

Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas are the new hotspots...they're growing like crazy.

I was in ACA last year and am very comfortable being in Mexico. I've spent probably more than 100 days in Mexico, including numerous trips to Mexico City. I say all that so that I have a little credibility when I tell you that I've never felt nervous as a tourist until I was in ACA.

We saw numerous Mexican Militiamen carrying machine guns walking near the Costera and didn't care for that one bit.

Once one leaves the confines of a great luxury resort, I think ACA has less to offer a discriminating guest than a host of other places. ACA feels a little run down most places and sort of out of control.

Research carefully to determine if ACA is still right for you. It certainly isn't the romantic, idyllic getaway it was in the late 1950s!
