Recommendations for seclusion in Mexico?
Hello-
My girlfriend and I are looking for a recommendation for a resort in Mexico. We're searching for a place that is secluded-- i.e., not a mega resort, nor part of any overly touristy destinations. If we can avoid any "family oriented" areas, that's a plus. We haven't narrowed down an area in Mexico either, but are interested in both the Caribbean side or the Pacific side. Our dream would be for the destination to have beach villas or huts that are detached from any main portion of the hotel. We're traveling from Seattle (so this is our one chance at sun before June!), and I'd likely take Alaska or another NWA partner in to the arrival airport. We're open to renting a car if necessary to reach the destination. Ideal travel dates are sometime mid to late March 2007. Thanks in advance! Adam |
I would recommend any of the Sandals resorts as they are built especially for couples. The beaches of Oaxaca are also beautiful and have beautiful blue water. If you are a surfer, Puerto Escondido is absolutely the place to be and is very inexpensive.
The Yucatan is also home to beautiful beaches but had become pretty touristy. Cancun is home to Spring Breakers around that time and Cozumel would probably be busy then as well. Check out TripAdvisor on individual hotels and resorts. Buen Viaje! |
You might want to consider Las Brisas Acapulco. The property consists of a multi-tiered hillside dotted with individual casitas, many w/ private splash pools. Since it's up on the hill it's away from the crowds. Fresh fruit basket delivered each morning. Beautiful views from the large patios.
I booked through Different World for quite favorable rates. |
I'd go to Las Hadas in Manzanillo. Great resort & laid-back town.

I would recommend Villa del Sol and La Casa que Canta in Zijuatenejo. Both discourage children and are on what I consider to be the best beach on the Pacific. They are both fairly pricey ($US300+ per night) but worth it. The hotels are small, intimate and great for couples. For even more seclusion at a higher price, both Las Alamandas north of Puerto Vallarta and Maroma, south of Cancun are both great.
For less expensive options, Villas Fa'sol and the Quinta Real in Huatulco provide a fair amount of seclusion, and Huatulco is small and pleasant, with the added attraction of some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, accessible only by boat. |
Also, the cities north of Puerto Vallarta...i.e. Bucerias, Sayulita, San Francisco...there are newer condos on the ocean for rental. It's still not as "Americanized" as the typical Mexican beach city, but it is secluded and relaxing.
