Oaxaca, and guidebooks for it?
My GF and I are planning a week in Oaxaca from just before Christmas to New Year's Eve or so. We have Mexico guidebooks with a few pages on Oaxaca, Monte Albán, etc., but that's all. Anyone have any suggestions for something more in-depth?
As one possibility, we just came across a pointer to Viva Oaxaca by Adler and Wexler on the Web. Has anyone seen the actual book? Any opinions one way or the other? (If nothing else, we won't risk much money by getting a copy.) Any and all suggestions for things to do while there would be gratefully appreciated as well, of course. |
Barbara Hopkins's Oaxaca: Crafts and Sightseeing is a bit dated and now out of print but worthwhile if you can find a cheap used copy. You'll want to hit the Monte Albán and Mitla ruins. For handicrafts, hire a taxi or join the chickens and piglets on the local buses to the various villages: Teotitlán del Valle for rugs, Ocotlán for pottery, Tlacolula for market day (Sunday?), and Azzazola for wood carvings.
Also, see this thread for dining suggestions. |
