Does Mexico Celebrate Thanksgiving?

Do you know if Mexico celebrate thanksgiving? If so, what do they do?

They don't. If they did you'd prob see a lot fewer turkeys in the trees.

Welcome to FT!

My wife and kids are from Mexico. As Ryan said, no they do not, and Mexico does not have an official holiday similar to the Thanksgiving holiday celebrated in the US.

Having said that: There are an estimated 1.6 million US ex-pats living in Mexico and it is probably safe to expect many, if not most, of them celebrate Thanksgiving and probably invite their close friends to celebrate with them. And in major ex-pat communities (San Miguel de Allende, for example) there are sure to be restaurants that offer traditional Thanksgiving menus.

In addition, as there have been so much back and forth migration and cultural exchange between the countries, it is not uncommon for Mexican-Americans, American-Mexicans to have a similar traditional family dinner either on the traditional third Thursday in November or on another day. What they eat will depend on the family, just like in the States.

Is there a particular reason you are asking?

In our corner of Mexico on the coast below Puerto Vallarta there are places to find a catered Thanksgiving dinner around. Costco and maybe La Comer are the most likely spots to buy a turkey. In terms of Thanksgiving remember Mexico is VERY popular with Canadian tourists who celebrate Thanksgiving in October.

Isn't this the day in Mexico when they celebrate the Spanish Peacemakers that crossed the Atlantic, and had a large feast with the Mayans, helping them to better their self-governance, bearing gifts of blankets laden with "health supplements?"

The last 2 years we've actually flown south from TIJ (we are in San Diego county) on Thanksgiving and it's been great since it's just another thursday. Spent one in Puebla and another in Mexico City. It's a great time to visit as the weather is usually quite mild.
