Volaris changed flight DATES. Help?

Hi, longtime lurker here but don't post that often, so if I'm in the wrong place please let me know.

We (thought we were) flying TIJ-MZT.
Departing April 6 on Y4 592 - changed to April 4
Returning April 10 on Y4 519 - changed to April 11

No notification from Volaris at all. We found out when someone else on the same flight told us that their dates were changed too. We bought CBX tickets at the same time and had gotten some emails from them. Looking back at it, these flight changed dates three times! CBX Change notices sent on Nov 10th, Nov 11th, and Dec 19th.

We have confirmed plans in Mazatlan that are absolutely inflexible. How are they able to move the dates, and how can we get them to stop doing it?!

Did we book the wrong type of ticket?

It is very hard to book a flight to MZT around this time. Do I have to call someone and pay extra, or what can I do?

Does Volaris not fly that route daily? If it's only a couple of days a week and they're moving the days around, that would certainly be a problem. I guess this is a risk you take when booking a LCC.

I would immediately call Volaris (if you don't speak Spanish, it's probably best to find someone who does who can call on your behalf). It might be possible to have them reroute you via a connection in MEX. While not ideal, it could at least ensure you get to your destination and return home on the right days.

If that's not an option (and I have no idea how accommodating Volaris will be; I've only flown them once), you might have to book new flights with another airline. Given the date change, you should be able to cancel for a full refund.

Thank you M60_to_LGA. They do fly near-daily. I'm glad you agree it's a problem also, I do not live in Mexico so unfortunately I am ignorant of how things normally work there.

Volaris was not my first choice for a flight. When I booked there were extremely limited options, even though I booked as early as possible. Now I know they are not an option, even if they are the only option.

Their changed dates had me leaving at 1:00am(!) in the morning two days earlier(!) and a too-tight connection in MEX, altogether doubling the flight time and pretty much guaranteeing failure at some point in the trip.

The cynical side of me believes corporate is trying to lose people around who bought tickets before Volaris realized the solar event was happening & increased prices, so they're trying to force cancellations.

It hurt, but I booked another flight (10x the cost, ouch) as I no longer trust them to get me there on time (or trust them at all, really). My wallet is still smarting and I'm hunkering down for a long fight with Volaris for a refund.

Checking Google Flights, VivaAerobus flies that route non-stop on Saturday, April 6, with a return on April 10. The round trip is currently priced at $434.

Thank you TWA884! I have flown VivaAerobus in the past and had a good experience.

Primary concern now is not money but reliability. If I could have gotten a backup out of SAN (absolutely cannot miss dates) I would book those VivaAerobus tickets in a heartbeat. I hear AeroMexico is even better. I'm just.. spooked. No notification?

Before I posted I googled all permutations of "volaris date change" that I could think of, and came up empty. I'm still surprised that dramatic date and schedule changes are treated with such blasé. I am not a veteran Mexico traveler, but I explore when I can.

Thank you for your help and all the best flying in 2024!
