Highway Robberies - Highway 85D; Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico

Location: Highway 85D; Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico Event: The U.S. Consulate General Monterrey is aware of several recent robberies on highway 85D within Nuevo Leon, in which cars were forced to the side of the road and robbed by armed groups. Victims have described being “pulled over” by a vehicle with flashing lights, giving the appearance of an authorized traffic stop until assailants emerged from the vehicle. Local media has also reported on a perceived increase in criminal activity along this highway. Local authorities have indicated that these armed groups appear to be targeting vehicles with out-of-state and foreign license plates. U.S. Government employees in Mexico are limited to travel between cities only during daylight hours. Notably, recent robberies along highway 85D reportedly occurred during mid-morning hours, highlighting the need to maintain heightened awareness while traveling on this route at any time of day. Event: On Saturday, March 7 at 11:00 am, there is a planned protest at the U.S. Embassy in Polanco against U.S. military action in Iran.On Sunday, March 8, there are disruptions expected throughout the city due to the International Women’s Day march. This will be from the Columbus roundabout on Paseo de la Reforma (aka – “Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan”) to the Zocalo. Other groups will gather at different points along Reforma, including the Mexican Revolution monument, the Diana roundabout, and the Angel of Independence, to join the main protest at 12:00 pm in the Zocalo. Demonstration Alert: Mexico City -Polanco and the Zocalo May 30 &June 1st
Location: U.S. Embassy in Polanco and downtown Mexico City near the Zocalo.
Event: On Saturday, May 30, from 11:00 to 15:00, an "anti-imperialist cultural day" protest will be held by the Frente Memero Suberviso (Subversive Meme-ing Front) outside the U.S. Embassy in Polanco. On Monday, June 1, the CNE (Mexican teachers' union) is holding a large demonstration in the downtown area and along major thoroughfares leading to the Zocalo, which is expected to result in significant road closures and traffic delays.
