Apostille Birth Certificate just for Touring Mexico?

I thought it was only a requirement for moving there or doing business?

Now, where did you find that?

I first read it on an expat site, just for residency though. Then I went to our .gov site and read it there. No mention of exact purpose though. Then I found out that my birth certificate isn't valid to be Apostilled.
So I asked at the Mexican Consular's office. Was told I need it apostilled.
I reiterated that I'm just going for a visit 30-45 days, no business involved.

If you're a US citizen, all you need is a passport, and you can stay for up to 180 days.

I've done it many times.

That's what I thought, don't know why I'm getting conflicting info.
I really don't want to deal with my birth certificate right now, it'll take too long.

I've been to Mexico about a hundred times and have never been asked for it. I did, have to get an apostille birth certificate to present to another country (the Netherlands) when I was filling out the paperwork to become a permanent resident there.

If you have a valid US passport with at least 6 months remaining from your date of entry, that will suffice.

See http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mexic...-visa-etc.html.

You can also use IATA TIMATIC as offered by Star Alliance to enter your details and verify the requirements for entry: http://www.staralliance.com/en/services/visa-and-health

I think what the Consulate is advising you, is that if you are required to present your birth certificate for residency etc., you would need to have it apostilled.
